All, my fiance just received his packet 3 instructions and I am a bit confused on the first letter it states, complete the DS-156 and DS-156k and dont sign.

Then on a paper a few pages in title DS-156 it state complete print out and sign and send it in order to have an interview?

I understand the DS-156K is taken to the interview but what about the DS-156? Should we send in a copy with the returned DS-230 Part I just in case they want it?

Let me know!

Thanks

The US consulates in various countries vary a lot as to exactly what forms they want, how they want them, and when they want them. In Canada, where I did my application, there are two consulates: one in Vancouver and one in Montreal. Even they have significant differences in their application processes, and they're both in the same country.

You haven't yet indicated from what country you are applying in your profile, so it's very difficult for us to know which consulate you are dealing with.

I found, as I was applying, that I was able to get the best, most authoritative answers for this part of the process from the consulate itself. The US consulate in Vancouver has an email address specifically for visa application questions, and they are usually very good about providing timely, authoritative answers to visa application questions. Unlike USCIS, for whom it is very difficult to reach someone authoritative, I found dealing with the consulate very easy. You should check to see if your consulate has a similar email address. If they do, dealing with them may be the easiest way to get answers for visa application questions.

Additionally, if you fill out your timeline and profile, so that other people here can tell which country you are applying through, other people who have applied through your country and have more immediate experience will be able to tell you their experiences: what they did in similar situations and how it worked out.

Best of luck!

DON'T PANIC

We had to mail in the DS-230, Part I signed. That is the form our embassy needed before they would schedule an interview (packet 4). We emailed it to, but as of now Kingston is not accepting emailed copies as attachments. We made two copies of ALL the DS forms and brought with us.

Good luck to you :)

Thank you all, the consulate is Barbados.

I have the information from the link on Barbados, but it is different then what they are requesting.

I am going to have my finance call Barbados Consulate and ask them specifcally what they need in order to get the Packet 4 interview.

I believe for now it will be the DS-2001 Checklist signed and dated as well as the DS-230 Part I. I hope that expedites the process and we get an interview soon.

Thank you!

Hi Foura,

I recently went through the K-1 process down there the packets are a bit confusing because they give you both the K-1 & the K-3 instructions.

Here are the basics of what you need to do to get them to issue your fiance packet #4:

1- Fill out two copies of the DS-156

2- Fill out one copy of DS-156k

3- Fill out part one of DS-230 (they will send you part two and it's instructions in packet #4)

You can sign the forms at this point, no worry. (I signed them). Then mailed the packet back to the Embassy ASAP to keep the process going. They will not send packet# 4 until you send then back the forms. The instructions of the packet will confuse you, I surely was! Your finance can also call the embassy for instructions if there are any doubts. I urge both of you to call them because if there are any mistakes made with the forms are items such as passport pictures etc...you might not be aware of it and they will not let you know right away and this may delay the process.

Oh one other thing I think the interviews are planned like within the first two weeks of every month, so if ur outside that window dont look for packet #4 to be sent too soon. Give it like 1-2 weeks

Brian, thank you for your information. I did in fact called the Embassy and they said to send in the DS-156, DS-156K and the Ds-230. But I also had my finance make a copy of all the forms to take with him to the interview. He sent them ASAP on Tuesday. I am going to give it until Monday when I will call and check if they received all the right papers.

OK! Thanks for the info on the interview, i am getting excited and hopefuly for a interview date to be soon.

Good luck as well, take care
