Hi, everyone I was wondering if my husband friend who lives is Lagos, Nigeria, and wants to visit the US what all he need to come here? He have to go the Embassy next month to have his interview, but we want to make sure he have everything he needs.

For tourist visa, they will probably ask what he is going to do in the US. Where he will stay, for how long etc.

Also he will have to show supportive information he has enough money to support this trip.

I would advise you to write an invitation letter for him saying he will stay in your house visiting. That way he can show the consul he has a friend in USA and prove he is just traveling to visit.

He has to make sure all the answers he gives at the interview show the consul he doesn't have an intention to stay illegaly in the country. Show them he will come back to his country. Get employment letters, proof of income, if he owns anything tell him to bring proof of it, etc!

It will be VERY important that he brings proof if a compelling reason to return to Nigeria. It is a difficult consulate, you might want to post this question in the MENA forum (Middle East, North Africa) as someone there might have better input on the difficulty of getting the tourist visa and what to bring and what they ask... No, you don't need to make an affidavit for him. Just an invitation letter.

He is the one who will be asked to show he has ties in Nigeria.

About the business proof i don't know if is necessary. Maybe if he is your employee. But then I don't know if they would give him a visitor visa instead of a business visa.

I'd just make a letter saying you know each other for a long time, and that he will stay with you visiting.

Please, if you are really searching for info on what it takes to get a tourist visa, ask the people in the MENA forum... Lagos is a very difficult consulate and they have a high fraud rate and getting a tourist visa is more difficult than say from Brasil, Europe etc.. Since he has a business in Nigeria he would definetly be well served to prove that he MUST return to Nigeria and not stay in the US and adjust status....

I would post this in the MENA forum and see what others from Nigeria have to add...

affadavit of support - NO.

Show Yer Lease - NO

Show Proof of his Business in Nigeria - YES.

Invitation Letter

Bank Financial statement with a total balance upto 1million naira and above within the last 3 to 6 months ago

C of O if he has a house

Car documents if he has one

Landed property of any kind

Birth certificate of his kid(s) if he got one

Letter from his employer, if self employed his company certificate of registration obtained from CAC in Abuja Nigeria

If self employed, copies of cheques, invoice, receipt received and sent for the last 3months

Your US passport data page

Your birth certificate (if necessary)

Question he should expect;

Who is inviting you?

Who is she to you?

Has she been in Nigeria?

What does he do for a living?

If he live in Nigeria?

And some couples more......

My husband friend was ask those questions above questions when he applied last yr april..

KDOR's list is a good one for you to consider. Your SO's friend will need to show that he/she is more than financially secure...but that he/she has absolutely no reason to want to remain in the US. Proof of significant ties to Nigeria is what is needed.

It is not easy to get a tourist visa from Nigeria and after recent events it is likely even more difficult. So your friend should be certain to load up on the evidence of strong ties to Nigeria.
