Late appointment = bad??

Hi everyone!

I read on here somewhere that it's likely that if you have been given an afternoon interview appointment this is a bad sign as this means they want to spend more time grilling you because of something they feel is questionable about your case. Is this true?? Our interview time is 1pm so now that's got me thinking - not that we have anything to worry about but after reading some of the horror stories on here it seems like that's not an automatic green light.

Has anyone else got/had an afternoon appointment?

You are correct: cases that will be approved are scheduled in the A.M.; cases that are being denied are always scheduled in the afternoon, not because they have more time to grill the applicants, but because they want to go home early. Why even go there?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I would say this is not the case at all. It would be pretty hard I think to process all the cases if they reserved the morning for good and the afternoon for bad. That would get really time consuming... what if there are more good than bad? Would all the good people end up waiting 6 months for an interview 'cause they can "only" be in the morning? What about the bad?

No, I think this is just conjecture.

Never heard of anything like that before, and logistically, it would be incredibly difficult to manage. There are only so many immigration officers in an office with only so many time slots available for an interview. They process more than just one type of application, many of which also require interviews. To try and only schedule problematic interviews in an afternoon in order to provide extra time for 'grilling' doesn't make any sense. If they want extra time for grilling someone they can do it just as easily in the morning. The application itself will determine how long a time they set aside for an interview. 1 pm is 1 pm - nothing more. My citizenship interview, btw, was at 1:05. It took just over ten minutes - no issues, no problems, a quick in and out. All sorts of other interviews were going on at the same time. People were being called every few minutes. They schedule when they schedule - don't make things tougher on yourself than they need to be. :) . Good luck at the interview.

Hello! I just noticed we have the same wedding date as you do! August 15th was a good day, eh? :star: My hubby is also here on a J1 so we're in similar situation as you with that as well. Our interview is this Thursday, I'll be writing a review afterward so look out for it if you want

BTW- I agree with others that I doubt the time has any relevance. They schedule when your local office has an opening.

yea i guess it's silly to think that. i didn't literally mean AM=good, PM=bad of course but i was wondering if it was true about there being a higher chance that they've found a problem in cases they've left til the afternoon. but still doesn't really make sense - if i were them i'd rather get the troublesome cases out of the way before lunch!

I dont believe there is any thruth to this. At the consulate in Voetnam the appointment time is rather meaningless. Everyine enters and takes a number and then you are called to a window based on the number you were given. Many times the morning s run into the afternoons and the afternoons run into the nest day. Don't worry. If you have a good and solid case and are well organized with lots of proofs you should be successful.

Good Luck to you.

I've read some reviews of both the Montreal and the Vancouver consulates. From what I've read, Montreal doesn't schedule appointments and everyone seems to show up an hour before the place opens and interviews are done by numbers given to applicants when they enter the building. Most are are usually out within 2 hours. Not so much grilling as it is just waiting their turn at various windows to submit papers, pay the fee, and then the interview. What I've noticed from reading the reviews at Vancouver is that they do send out appointment times and it appears that most are in the afternoon and none of the reviewers have had issues or been turned away.

Although this may not answer how your consulate does things, I hope this helps reassure you that consulates even within the same country do different things and that time of day is not an indication their being a problem. I doubt there is any credence to the CO's scheduling interviews so that they can go home early.

Best wishes!
