It is an immigration website. Immigration to America. Not just any old country, but the country which first established formally the concepts of Liberty and inalienable rights. I wrote this, too, in my OP:

Look, it's not my site. Ewok and Katherine and the rest of the mod squad can and will do whatever the hell you like.

Others derailed the thread and it got closed....I agree with free speech, unless you are a party to an immigration help website, the primary purpose of the site's existence. The OT traffic needs to be moderated at some point....Particularly when insults are foisted or the TOS gets violated. Why are VJ members so firm on the ability to post at will, to include insults and so forth?

So, your argument is that because (a) the original poster stopped posting after post #1 (b ) the thread meandered through a few derailments, but otherwise was an airing of many members views of the touchy subject of censorship and offensive opinions, that this is legitimate grounds to lock a thread??? Are you SERIOUSLY saying that? I mean, in that case you better lock this thread right here right now!

Jundp opened it, but she's not active on it now. Meanwhile Marc, AJ, me and you are using her thread to post Led Zeppelin Youtube clips and diatribes about VJ moderation. Sheesh, better lock this sucker!

VJ is a privately operated site. It has no obligation to comply with this principle. All members (me included) are subject to the rules of the site. Our one course of appeal is to stop using the site if we don't like its rules.

However, short of that recourse I appeal to you and Ewok and the rest to reflect carefully on what benefit arbitrary thread locking achieves.

I do note that things seem to have gotten better. When I posted that thread last August I felt the moderation was oppressive. I think it's eased up considerably since then.
