Should I get my medical appointment BEFORE I send the checklist back to the Embassy? I don't want to get my interview date until I'm sure I can get the medical done beforehand.

How long will I have to wait for the medical appointment compared to the wait until my interview after I send the checklist back?

I also want to make sure I get my police certificate before my interview.

Thanks everyone I don't know what I would do without Vj its soooooo informative.

Generally scheduling the medical interviews don't take a long time. I don't know how long the UK is taking right now to schedule interviews (someone more familiar with that will come along and tell us soon, I'm sure) but it is generally considered safe to send the checklist back without having the medical done although there is no reason why you couldn't schedule it before you send it back. You should have time. You may wish to phone the Panel Physician and ask how long it takes to schedule an appointment and if they have a long waiting time, schedule one now, or if it is a matter of a week or so you may wish to wait until after you send back the checklist. In the meantime you can get evidence from your family physician of the vaccinations you do have and perhaps schedule any missing ones with your own doctor instead of having to pay extra for those at the immigration medical.

Does your embassy/consulate require a checklist to be sent? In packet three there is a checklist for your benefit so you have an idea what you need to begin gathering for the interview. You just send the DS-2001 and DS-230 Part 1.

You cannot schedule the medical until you receive packet 4 because you need to take the appointment letter with you to the exam (along with your passport and two visa photos). It is fine if you go for your police certificate in advance - I believe these are good for 1 year but check your particular consulate.

and FYI - we used the IOM in Vietnam. We were able to pick up the results of the exam the next day. Maybe others from your fiance country can advise on appointments times and results.

when I did this in Austria, the girl sent in her paperwork and the next week she had her medical exam appointment and the week after she had the interview and then 2 days later had the visa. I think every country is different, but that doesn't make sense, why can't the US embassy have a standard set of rules. Why is it possible to get your visa the day of the interview in some countries and in others it takes a week. Who is in charge of organizing the embassies, time to replace the lazy people.

That's key. You'll def want to check with someone who went to the same embassy on the requirements there. In Jamaica, you can't schedule the medical until you have your interview letter, but some countries don't have that requirement.

You can schedule your medical as soon as the embassy in London has your case logged into their system. IIRC, you will need your medical exam *before* your interview. I believe this requirement changed in October? Can't exactly remember. As far as your police check goes, get that done now, assuming you're already past NOA2. I didn't look at your time line to verify where you're at. It can take 10 days or so to get it back in the post.

Drop by the regional UK forum here to get more consulate specific info to London. There are some good folks there that will help you out along with some very good information already posted you can read though.
