Fake talent scout admits raping girl, 12, at North Bergen motel

A Union City child molester posing as an MTV talent scout has admitted raping a 12-year-old girl at a North Bergen motel, having enticed her with promises of stardom using a flashy Myspace.com Web page and lies, officials said.

"He manufactured a total lifestyle and persona to prey upon the fantasies of young girls who wanted to be stars," said Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Steven Dill of Adonis Giron, 43, of 48th Street, who pleaded guilty yesterday to the Oct. 13, 2008 aggravated assault of the Union City girl at the Fountain Motel on Paterson Plank Road.

"He is a sexual predator in the most classic sense," said Dill, who noted that additional allegations charging Giron with molesting two 13-year-old girls were dropped when he pleaded guilty to the more serious charge against the youngest victim.

On his Myspace page, Giron is "Javier Mtv Music," and the page features a stylish photograph of himself in sunglasses inside an airport with his shirt collar unbuttoned. It claims he is 26 years old and makes $100,000 to $250,000 as a manager at MTV music television in New York City. Dill said that as far as he knows, Giron was unemployed when arrested.

The Web page says Javier MTV Music has 118 Myspace friends and almost all of the friends listed are links to the Myspace pages of music stars. Dill said Giron "admitted that is him, that's his page and that's his fake name."

The prosecutor said Giron told girls that as a manager at MTV he could introduce them to people who could make them models, could open doors for them. The Web page "was part of perpetuating his fraud," said Dill.

Some months after Giron had sex with the 12-year-old, her parents learned of the situation and went to police. The case was taken up by the Special Victims Unit of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in March, Dill said.

Based on the plea deal, Giron will be sentenced to 10 years in prison with no chance of parole until after serving 85 percent of the sentence, Dill said.

In February, Giron pleaded guilty to two counts of theft by deception in an unrelated case in Monmouth County, where he was sentenced to three years probation, Dill said.

Giron is being held in the Hudson County jail in Kearny on a $300,000 bail. He will be sentenced on Feb. 26 by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale in the Hudson County Administration Building, on Newark Avenue in Jersey City.

In the US, having sex with an underage person IS considered rape. Not to mention that nowhere in the article do I recall reading that the girl agreed to this, just that she was tricked into meeting with this sleezeball in the first place.

In this day and age, it seems pretty naive for someone who is 12 to be tricked in this manner, given all the internet warning programs out there, but a 12 yr old girl with stardom in her eyes and a sexual preditor is a bad combination.

I wouldn't base it on age. Children develop differently and reach the point where they

can make their own decisions at different times.

First off, a 12 year old is not a teen yet. And if they were mature enough to make those kind of decisions, that would be a different story. To determine a case of rape purely based on someone opinion of how mature a minor child is, leave the loop holes WIDE open for all sorts of child molesters to use and abuse a child AND the system. I can only assume you have no children of your own. I would HOPE that if you did, your opinion would be different.

If the teens have sex amongst themselves, that's one thing and yes they will and do, but if an older adult preys on a teen (the adult was dishonest and used his position of authority and experience to persuade a pre teen in this case to do something that in all honesty she would not have done without the enticement - or are you seriously suggesting that this was an equitable sexual contract?), then no, they don't have the wherewithal to make that decision and if society puts the onus on the adult to not behave in this way (hence the sentence for the adult, not the child) then yes, that's a sensible way to deal with this matter.
