nvc just received my file. does anybody know how long it takes the file to process at the national visa center.

They have been quite helpful over in the March NVC forum..just have to sift through 200+ pages of posts...an estimated break down is on one of the last few pages.

I just gave USCIS a call, hoping to nudge them to do something about my husband's case because I don't want to start NVC processing on my daughter's case without his. I was able to talk to rep who kinda made me more confused because I asked her if they will send the cases separately to NVC. Then she started enumerating the different petitions that would be filed together, and in the end, said that ours will be sent as they are approved. I also asked her if it was uncommon for an IR2 to be approved faster than an IR1 when sent together; and she said that it generally took the same amount of time. So I'm hoping that everything ends well without RFE for my husband and I hope everyone gets their NOA2 soon enough. Anyone with the same case as mine? IR2 NOA2 before IR1 NOA2?

Okay please ignore my last post, sounded really stupid then! soo I read up...the wiki...the James shortcut...and the Ling one...but its kinda not clear about the DS-3032 form...like...one says not to send it until you get it from the NVC...the other says to send it before, generate your own barcode etc etc...so what's really are the steps...

First...you call the NVC after a week and get your case numberr....

Second...you OPTIN for EP by sending an email with the attached DS-3032 form (with the barcode pasted that you have generated)

Third...wait for NVC to acknowledge it...once they do...then they send you a DS-3032 bill...that you have to pay???

Then it gets confusing after that...when do you ask for ur invoice number?? etc etc...

Sorry, its just that, theres just too much info but the steps aren't clear enough...

thanks!

Well you are partially correct ....

After NOA2:

1. Call NVC to obtain your case file number - if you wait for NVC to send this in you lose time processing time.

2. Once you get the file number, you send in the OPTIN email to the consulate (Montreal for us Canadians) and with the DS3032 (Choice of Agent). The email and DS 3032 come from the beneficiary's email. I believe you don't have to worry about scanning the bar code if you are filing electronically.

3. NVC acknowledges receipt of the OPTIN email and the DS 3032.

4. NVC then send the petitioner (or agent as you chose on DS 3032) the Aff of Support bill ($70) and sends the I 864 (Aff of support document). Your spouse completes that ie signs etc and that gets scanned in and sent to NVC along with current tax/earnings, few more years of tax transcripts, letter of employment. Make sure your spouse meets the poverty guidelines or you'll require a joint sponsor.

5. After AOS bill is paid and acknowledged, NVC also sends the DS230- package - a bill is generated ($400 for the visa), it's paid and you send in the signed and dated DS230 form applying for the visa. Sign only Part 1 of this and leave part 2 unsigned. At the same time you send in all the other documents required ie bio page of passport, your birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decrees, police certificate, two passport style pics of the beneficiary (you).

I believe the invoice number will appear on the documents and bills that NVC sends out.

By sending in I mean scanned and emailed to NVC. You don't want to do EP and also send in hardcopies of your documents; this will cause delays. Make sure you have your NVC case number on each thing you send out, attached to the forms or on your email at the subject line.

If you go with EP, make sure you bring the original documents with you to the Embassy when you interview. As well as the original documents you will need copies of each. And you'll need to bring two more passport photos, either the same ones you scanned and emailed in or two other ones, apparently the Embassy will take different ones according to several people posting on here.

Keep reading the short cuts and also read posts on EP - lots of people are doing it and posting of success. There have been a few glitches also ie website down, people paying the bills on line but having problems showing pending when they paid etc.

You can pay the bills online (probably best) or via snail mail with cheques etc (checks in the USA/cheques Canada haha).

Hope this helps.

And please anyone feel free to correct, amend, add, if there is anything I've missed etc.

Ps still no bloody NOA2 yet......

Stay positive !!

Okay this sounds a lot better!...at least NOW the shortcuts will make more sense....but please see below my comments...just needed a little more clarifications....

Well you are partially correct ....

After NOA2:

1. Call NVC to obtain your case file number - if you wait for NVC to send this in you lose time processing time.

2. Once you get the file number, you send in the OPTIN email to the consulate (Montreal for us Canadians)---> just wanted to confirm the email address...is it NVCMontreal@state.gov

and with the DS3032 (Choice of Agent) ---> we can get this form on our own from the USCIS website??.

Sign only Part 1 of this and leave part 2 unsigned. At the same time you send in all the other documents required ie bio page of passport, your birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decrees, police certificate, two passport style pics of the beneficiary (you).

[ For steps 4 and 5...we should always pay the invoice first...see if they get processed...that is it shows up on the website saying PAID...AND then send in the documents right...just wondering...if we can do things simultaneously??]

And please anyone feel free to correct, amend, add, if there is anything I've missed etc.

Ps still no bloody NOA2 yet...... ---> I think I will get additional processing or something like that...because this is what happened with me...before I met my husband...my parents were sponsored by their siblings for the immigrant visa for siblings thing...I am not sure if it still happens now...and my process had started with NVC as i was dependant on my parents...but then NVC returned my paperwork to my parents during the interview saying I was over the age of 21...so they couldn't process me anymore...and then my parents went on to abandon their case as they got sick of the whole paperwork...and waiting around...

So now when I met my husband...and we decided to file I-130...in that form...question 16 (under the column where it says...information about your foreign spouse)...we wrote "NO" if i was under any immigration proceedings...to be honest...we really didn't get that question...and we just said "NO"...not sure if I should have said "YES"...I decided to say "NO" because I was never a main beneficiary...my parents were....

So I guess...its probably going to take time with me...that's what I think...who knows...really...not sure... :SStay positive !!

Hi, yes Sedona...a spritual experience it is. I went in 2008 and was enthralled by it's beauty, then returned last July and proposed !! I'm going to try to get out to Arizona over Easter otherwise I won't see my wife for three months. I was there in Feb. It is hard. We've been doing the long distance thing since laste 2007.

I've been on the fence with the electronic filing or snail mail and we've decided to go for it and file electronically. I did look at the wiki pages and also posts. I've also PMd some people asking for additional help. I feel confident in doing it this way and I do think it'll shave some time off the overall process. At least I hope so. I can't wait to get the NOA2 approval so we can get on with the application for the visa. We''ve got 90% of the documents already scanned into computers so it's really just a matter of receiving word of the petition's approval, then obtaining the NVC case number, and then opting in to EP.

Are you thinking of filing electronicially?

I'm keeping an eye out for discounted air fare....gets expensive flying into the USA every two months or so... B-)

I'm just looking at another part of your post that I had't commented on.

You said your husband mailed you his passport and his tax information. However, this isn't required. Because he is the beneficiary, at NVC what is required is a photocopy of the bio page of his passport ie identification, picture, passport number, etc. That is the part they need but not his passport. Further, there isn't any requirement for his tax information; the I 864 that will get mailed out will be asking for your tax inforation. You have to be earning over the poverty guidelines for 2009 which sits at about $18, 202 - you'll need filing for taxes 2009 and two more years of past taxes. You also need a letter of employment or proof of self employment etc. See the guides for more information.

But again, his passport isn't required nor his tax information. It's also not a great idea to mail passports in general unless perhaps you have a signature requirement upon delivery. I don't know if it's illegal in Jordan or not.

Anyway, for your info...

WOW since 2007!! That must've been difficult and expensive, thats definately love if you ask me! One more proof of bonafide marriage to add. That's so romantic that you proposed in Sedona. Once we visited the pyramids, and I saw a guy proposing by the pyramids...proposals are always so sweet and lovely. I don't get to see my husband for 5 months at a time. The tix for Egypt are around the 1500 dollar range. Hopefully this will be the last summer I have to got to Egypt for a while. Not to mention the longest flight I've ever been on. I already got my tix, and I'm always price hunting too...even after I bought my tix, just to see if I got the best price.

I was thinking about filing electronically...it all depends on the timing of the NO2. I'm leaving to Egypt during the end of May. I don't have any of my husbands documents except the DS3032 and DS230 completed. I'm not even sure if I can access a scanner in Egypt. He's going to start working on the translations for his birth certificate, passport, and police certificate in April. It would be awesome if we found a scanner to work with in Egypt, it would definately speed up the process. I'm going to keep the EP option open. I will keep tabs on the process, you seem very knowledgable about it...so if I have any questions, you'll be the first person that comes to mind.

Oh about the passport and tax information, that is pertaining to the W-7 I just filed today. I filed joint married, and I just submitted all the paperwork to the IRS office in Flagstaff. I was worried about getting a copy of his passport notarized, because my bank said that he had to be present. So I just took it to the IRS office, submitted everything and they copied the passport and gave it back to me. They said to wait 6-8 weeks. So, im glad that hurdle is out of the way. Now I have to mail it back to him so he can get a new one that will match his name on the marriage certificate. "Mohammed" on the marriage certificate and "Mohamed" on the passport. I don't think NVC will accept that.

Thanks for the info about the I-864, I got all that done...just collecting my pay stubs as they come. I think it could be any day for any of us! This truly is a journey that most married couples don't go through. Going through this process is probably equivilant to an online college course! LOL

deepdawg,

Question :

I heard from one of the people I know is that his I130 petition was transferred a local USCIS office and is pending an interview (his is a AOS case). The online status for him is showing that the case is transferred but the stage is "initial review". So is it possible that some of the initial review cases (which are transferred to a local office) are no longer processed by CSC [but still show up] ?

Thanks
