Federal grand jury is investigating Sheriff Arpaio

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is now the target of a federal grand jury probe, according to the Maricopa county manager.

Sources say the investigation is tied to allegations of abuse of power relating to targeting political opponents and enemies for harassment and investigation. Smith says that includes threatening investigations against opponents when there is no probable cause and intimidating county employees at their homes.

Sources told 12 News late Thursday that the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington has been conducting and managing the investigation, which started more than a year ago. It started late in George W. Bush's Administration, stopped during the transition, and started again after President Obama took office.

I do hope that happens. Hopefully, a result of a clerical error is that he ends up housed with the Latin Kings. Even if it's just for a few hours, I suspect that would be enoguh.

What happened to all the the charges of prison abuse and charges of discrimination? Must not have found much on that score so now its all political stuff which dovetails nicely with the VJ crowd that advocates the verdict first then the trial. Kinda like Obama's KSM promised show trial.

Years ago, I applauded his attitudes and actions. Now, I consider him perhaps the chief pooh-bah of many who seek to take the barren shell of the Fourth Amendment off the full life-support that it's currently on.

Nope. Couldn't see a single post in the first 15 posts of the four threads so this sounds largely political having nothing to do with the sheriff's usual "crimes". Allegations can be made by anyone but they aren't convictions.

Many of those allegations comes directly from the mayors of cities under his district. And, other Sheriffs must lower themselves to his command.

City managers aren't elected but sheriffs are. Like I said anyone can make charges.

My brother worked as a deputy under Arpaio for over 20 years. He's as Right Wing as one can get...and even he's been saying Arpaio is a horse's ####### for a long time now. It's funny to see so many who live outside of Maricopa County think the Sheriff is some kind of gutsy hero. They have no idea how much that perception of theirs is because of his own self promotion and PR.
