I received this email this morning from Travisa Outsourcing (the people that handle Indian tourist visas).

In December 2009, India introduced a new rule that prevents Tourist visa holders from re-visiting India within 2 months after last leaving. That rule has been updated recently to include the following:

All Tourist visa holders, including 6 Month visa holders, and Non US citizens holding a Tourist visa are impacted by the new rule.

Some exceptions can be made on a case by case basis as decided on by the local Consulates. Exception reasons include sick family members in India.

Travisa is somewhat behind in updations--the new visa rule was recently modified to allow up to 3 entries into India from neighbouring (Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka--but not China or Myanmar) countries (if India was used as base to visit them) within the 2-month timeframe.

2006/05/01 AOS Packet (I-485/I-131/I-765) filed at Chicago

2006/08/23 AP and EAD approved. Two down, 1.5 to go

2006/10/13 Pras' I-485 interview--APPROVED!

2006/10/27 Pras' conditional GC arrives -- .5 to go (2 yrs to Conditions Removal)

2008/07/21 I-751 (conditions removal) filed

2008/08/22 I-751 biometrics completed

2009/06/18 I-751 approved

2009/07/03 10-year GC received; last 0.5 done!

2009/07/23 Pras files N-400

2009/11/16 My 46TH birthday, Pras N-400 approved

2010/03/18 Pras' swear-in

what about the pio? i think i am waiting to just apply for that when the time comes. my tourist visa expires on monday.

what about the pio? i think i am waiting to just apply for that when the time comes. my tourist visa expires on monday.

I don't think it applies to the PIO either...it said just the straight tourist visa. I will also be applying for PIO in April when we have been married for the 1 year that's required.

Basically rules for tourist visa have no connexion with PIO/OCI applications anyway.

The rules are only for tourist visas and no other type of visa; and of course, has nothing to do with PIO or OCI cards.
