The school is heated. I wonder how many of these kids' homes have adequate heat for this kind of weather. Warm coat or no, some might be warmer overall if they do go to school.

What we need is a federal government run public option to buy kids coats. Clearly the free market has proven inadequate in that it is not affordable to all who need it.

The churches around here donate coats, hats and gloves in the winter to the poor & their children. (along with food, clothing, etc)

I love how they walk up in the church with their iPods, timberland boots and their gold chains but they can't afford a freakin' coat. :blink: I hate to say it, but it's true. And it's disgusting if you ask me. Way to prioritize.

There are also a lot of kids whose parents ARE seriously poor and can't afford coats but they are too proud to go to the church and accept charity. So it's a catch 22 I guess.
