there's a manager at work who always lists Toronto in the list of US branches but Montreal in the list of Canadian branches....

he's been corrected many times but never learns. Toronto "feels" so American to him!

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

What is it with the Americans and Geography

It is a cliché the world over that Americans don't know where ANYTHING is in the world.

I was at York Minster once when an American girl got talking to me - she said she was going to Norway tomorrow and is that in the North of England too ?

I just watched CNN and they had a 'report' that France was the best place to live - they had a picture of the Brandenburg gate it the background during the report

Why is it like this ??? I know they sell globes here....

I was always ashamed of this truth. Then I travelled and met a lot of people from around the world who were just as ignorant about world geography and world history and politics. I taught students from many different European, Asian, and Oceanic countries, and they knew no more than my American students. I guess it's just that more ignorant Americans travel than ignorant people from other countries.

I can always tell a Canadian by the way they say "aboot." Or call and ask them the temperature and you'll get it in Celcius. :) I like Canadians. I don't like their bacon though.

Canadian bacon is #######.

Ironically, the only time I like Canadian bacon is on an egg Mcmuffin. And if they screw that up, I'll cut a mutha fugger!

Whoa just realized I'm not in the McD's thread, must be my lack of mental capacity, being American and all.

We often do certified mailings in the department I work in. I actually had one of my co-workers (who is about 45 years old) tell me that Canada is part of the US so we can send a certified letter there.

I was at a conference in Atlanta and attended the reception for the international visitors. There was an American woman there laughing hysterically announcing to all and sundry "Since when was Canada another country?"

This has now become a thread on cold fusion? Oh wait, I'm American, my mental capacity has run dry for the day.

Are you always this cheerful or have we got you on a good day? :hehe:

I can always tell a Canadian by the way they say "aboot."

And which part of the country they're from. lol

I will agree with that. Last year I went to the Dominican Rep, for a huge family get together. We went to go sight seeing and my Great Aunt had a local try to talk to her. She tried the whole, if I speak louder he will understand English better, She then turned to me and asked me "Why doesn't anyone here speak English?" I had to bite my tongue when replying to her "We're in a different country Aunt Lillian."

That's not Canadian bacon! That's ham! It looks, and tastes, nothing like the stuff they try to pass off as "Canadian bacon" here in the US. It's an American invention! You can imagine how surprised and ticked off I was the first time I ordered it at a restaurant. <_<
