But do you care about expensive nice things? :P

I shop at places like Kohl's a lot too. It's not like I'm a branded fool. Those 30% off coupons really motivate me to go to the store

I've never really understood the label appeal. I'm a thrift store aficionado for just about anything. I always think it is fun to find a brand name item that is known for being expensive and getting it for a few bucks - like the bargain from yesterday - a 3/4 length top with the $145 price tag still attached for $5.49. The importance of labels to me is that I know certain labels fit me better than others so I am always happy to find those label brands because I know they will fit and look nice. Quality is important, yes, but over my years I have found out time and time again that 'price' is never a safe indication of quality.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

What i don't care about is buying something for the sole purpose of being showy. If I like something, I like it... I am not going to let it's brand or price determine how I feel. I think a lot of people... let that sway them because they want to look a certain way. Esp. around these parts... Jersey girls are the WORST for that.

Ah yes, I can understand that. That mentality reminds me of my high school years. Girls would come to school on out of uniform day in designer clothes strutting their stuff because mommy and daddy have money. What are you proving? Nothing.

Rhiann... I spend a fortune on food, so I'm with you there!

I buy second hand and from Thrift shops too. I always buy shoes new but i like funky tops and sweaters and you can find some awesome stuff at the thrift store. i never pay full price for clothing. Ever. It feels like a rip off. I pay good money for shoes but I don't have a lot and they get well used so... they gotta be new and well made.

There are things I pay a little more for. All of this started because there is a LV bag that is in our lost and found and the women are fighting over it. Not because they need it, not because they like it, it's because it's a Louis Vuitton bag. It's the brand. My boss is from Brooklyn and is always talking about going to NYC and down to Canal street and buying knock off bags... it's like all she does on her weekends. Deep down if anyone deserves that LV bag in the lost & found she does... she's paid her dues through countless knock offs.

Maybe your work should hold a small auction on it and donate the money to charity!

 Good idea Rhiann... but I don't think any of my coworkers would want to pay for it.

It's sitting right there I am going to tell my boss to take it today. She's got a lot of nice stuff from the lost and found here... a few months ago she got a pair of gucci sunglasses.

I could never take stuff out of a lost and found though. It just feels weird.

I love Ross, I've found alot of clothes there that would normally be like 40 to 50 dollars and I pay 10 to 20 dollars.

We're in alot of debt right now so I can't really afford to buy nice jeans and the like. I just hope that changes and my husband starts paying his debt again.

I want nice things too!

I like Ross and Marshall's too! But the closest is about an hour away, so I don't go there much. We have a Belk in town, and I do my best to go when the sales are good, and clearance is on their 75% savings. (course, by then..I don't find much..lol)

I've bought lots from thrift stores in the past. There is a Goodwill here, and a couple Sally Ann's, I haven't gone in to see them as much. I find that some of the sales in the local stores..(Belk, TJ Maxx) can be comparable to thrift stores anyways. I really miss the Value Village I used to go to though. They put things according to size, and even colour so you didn't have to search as hard. I usually always found lots in that store.

so today I am going to splurge a little and get my hair cut.. I have been growing it out but I think it would better to just get it cut shorter again because it is easier to take care of...

I so miss Value Village. I haven't dared to go into any of the thrift stores here, but I didn't like Sally Ann back home, so it limits my options. Value Village was incredible though.

I loved raiding the book shelfs at Value Village. I had a 30% discount from Chapters/Coles/Indigo...but even with 30% off, books were still way too pricey. x_x

ON A POSITIVE NOTE. :D

I booked my flight home today. I'll be back in Calgary from August 1 - 31st. I cannot wait! I just hope I get my greencard by then, if not, I'll have to rely on my visa stamp. :S!

There's few consumer goods I don't compromise on, and usually they have high utility, health and safety criteria:

- Bed matress

- Baby carseats, crib & strollers

- Car, bikes

- Kitchen knives, blender, cutlery, plates/bowls, refridgerator, etc

- Toilet paper

- Vitamin supplements

Stuff I splurge on but use/own less:

- Denim jeans & business attire

- Quality jewelry (necklace & earrings, don't do bracelets, rings (other than wedding rings) or watch)

- Professional photography services

- Digital SLR camera and acessories(I'm taking up photography again)

- Foundation makeup, powder, face lotion (I cheap out on liners & eye shadow)

- Hair gel & mousse

Other stuff I buy can be middle-of-the-road stuff like purses, tops, grooming products, etc.

I seldom do second-hand stuff since most of my purchases price can be reduced with online coupons LOVE THEM!). I did buy this cute gently-used baby winter jacket, outfits and hats.
