On the subject of quality...I need a real Starfrit can opener...can't get them down here and mine got broken somehow (strange child mystery...)

I liked how it held onto the lid and i could just drop it into recycling...have not found an identical one here :(

I don't know if it'd be identical to the one you're talking about, but check out the Pampered Chef can opener. It's all kinds of awesome. I really miss mine (it didn't make the trip to the U.S.).

Side note... whoa. Typing that gave me a deja vu. I have no idea why. lol

Well, it's not 100% craftsmanship... it's definitely part of it. LV bags never go down in value. You can sell an LV bag you bought 20 years ago and maybe even make a profit. You pay for the name, the design, the craftmanship, the materials, etc.

I've also owned a knock-off LV and Coach and they both literally fell apart at the seams after only like 6 months of normal wear.

I stand firm on "you get what you pay for"

Yes, you get a better item than a knockoff, but you are literally paying a 1000% markup just for the name. I wouldn't invest my money in Louis Vuitton bags. My sister has a couple vintage Louis Vuitton bags that she tells me are worth 10 times what she bought them for. Yeah, but you have to find someone to pay that. Someone may tell her the bag is worth $5-7k, but the highest offer she's ever seen is $500.

I don't get the appeal of handbags, but I kind of do. I enjoy my high performance car, but I make no bones about the fact that the reason it cost so much is the name brand.

My son is labelly. I feel like I am probably enabling the labelness too by just buying it for him. He likes certain clothes, ONLY wears Nikes, ONLY gets his hair done at a certain salon now. He's aware of brands and clothes and loves to shop. I figured having a boy would allow me to skip that stuff... nope. So I sort of get it... it's not for me but I sort of get it.

I was the opposite but when I was a teenager, jeans, docs and flannel were in. My mum loved it because it was pretty cheap.

ETA: Though he is aware, he looked inside his "sneaks" and saw that they were made in Vietnam and said: "Aww a little kid younger than me probably made this!" and I said: "Yea... so maybe you shouldn't wear them?" and he looked at me like I had four heads. Aware yes... willing to make some change? Not so much. :P

Ahhh, the good old days, when you could wear 18 eye Doc Martins and not be called a skinhead.

Actually most luxury goods are marked up about 400%. My Uncle owns a very high end store that carries Italian designer clothes and he told me 400% is standard.

Maybe YOU wouldn't invest your money in a LV bag, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth money. With any collector's item, you have to find someone in the market to buy. Ever heard of The Purse Forum? It's a forum full of people obsessed with purses. I bet some of them would pay tousands for a vintage LV. There's definitely a market for them, you're just not in it!

Just like I'm not in the market and would never buy a high performance car. But all the more power to you for having one.

not really any definite answers yet.. the doctor did confirm that I have about a 4 or 5 cm big lesion on my liver, something that wasn't there 2 months ago... he wants me to get a biopsy and I got some blood work done to rule out other stuff... I am on birth control and he said it could possibly be from that.. but I guess we will wait and see...

So it sounds like the Dr. isn't too concerned, so that's good! Enjoy your party!

I'm kinda with you on this one Sapphire. I spend money on bags and shoes, and sometimes clothes, and that's what I like. I'm very very picky about things like fabric and materials and stitching. Silly little detail things. When you pick up an expensive handbag, compared to a cheaper one, you can definitely tell the difference in quality. Some people just don't care, and that's totally fine too. Everyone has their thing. I work hard and I feel like I have the right to buy nice things.

With that said, my husband and I both work full time, have a small manageable house and mortgage, and don't have much debt or any children. I can go out and buy an expensive bag right now and it's totally fine. In 10 years when my life has changed and I have more than just me to worry about, I might have a different opinion, who knows.

for me I don't really care about expensive bags and clothes...

I am quite content to go to Susie's deals and get a few pairs of pants and a bunch of cute tops for 40 bucks

I love Ross, I've found alot of clothes there that would normally be like 40 to 50 dollars and I pay 10 to 20 dollars.

We're in alot of debt right now so I can't really afford to buy nice jeans and the like. I just hope that changes and my husband starts paying his debt again.

I want nice things too!
