Things have been so crazy! Trying to get all the finalized paper work together, plus my birthday was last Thursday so we all went out for a big dinner. I can't believe we're leaving for Montreal next Friday.

On that subject....

Anyone have any restaurant recommendations? Any sites that are an absolute "must see"??

When my ex's father passed away his brother who does not believe in god, heaven, hell and such. He just sat quietly while others did their thing. I really don't think there is any way not to feel odd when in that situation. As long as you feel that its not being forced onto you that doing what your doing is ok. At least to me anyways. Maybe if someone gave you a heads up you could tend to something in the kitchen if you don't like being in the middle of it all.

Congrats on the move Sprail! :D

I think you're handling the prayer/religion thing just fine Kim. There's not much you can do other than try to be respectful. If they were to expect you to pray along with them and go through the same motions, that would be a little ridiculous. They need to be respectful of your beliefs and religious background as well.

Whenever there is a family get together with my husbands side, there is usually a pre-dinner prayer. I just sit there and listen.

Same here.

Whenever there's anything prayer related, I sit there and listen.

yes, you're doing fine. You don't need to participate in their religious practices but being respectfully quiet is perfectly acceptable.

There's motions I don't get or understand but I sure wish I did... like that thing in church... the priest says something and everyone touches their forehead, nose and mouth... I think thats what they do.. can someone explain?

I don't get any of it either.

Ah, yes. Well, I grew up catholic and I can tell you what that is for "us" but I'm not really sure if other religions do it as well. I have absolutely no idea what the meaning is behind it, as being in Catholic mass for me was always a series of motions. You just memorize the service, and then you know how to respond and when. It's a really sad way of looking at it, but that's how I did it for like 17 years. When the priest goes to read the gospel he will say who it's from like... "The gospel according to Luke" and then you cross your forehead, mouth and heart and say "Glory to you Lord" I think it's something symbolic about accepting the gospel into your mind, words and heart or something. They never really explain to you why you're doing it, they just expect you to do it.

Sorry to the Catholics out there if that sounded bitter, I just am. I still have the entire mass memorized in my head even though I haven't been for about 5 years.

My mom was surprised that I remembered to call today.

I'm sure she'll be even more surprised when she gets flowers delivered to work tomorrow :D

My husband never even knew you could buy flowers from a place in another country and have them delivered, no wonder I never got flowers. :hehe:

So on my drive to work this morning, suddenly, the freeway gets gridlocked around the airport. About 500 feet from the exit that you would get off at to go to the airport, I see why. I guess someone had their luggage in the back of their pickup truck and it bouned out as they were trying to get over to exit. So, they pulled over, partilally blocking the carpool lane and I can see the pained look on this womans face as she is actually contemplating getting out of the truck to go retrieve her pieces of luggage that have now been run over by a truck. So, I thought my morning sucked. I was wrong.

My mom just called.

She was ecstatic over the flowers we got her.

She said, "Do you know how nice it is to get flowers at work?!"

I said, "Makes everyone jealous doesn't it?"

She said, "Yes!"

Glad to know she got them before the end of the work day and that she likes them. They were lavender coloured with two big white lilies.

Now if only I'd get some flowers from my husband :P
