What I will definitely miss is the different kinds of fruits I have access to in Toronto. I cant find good mangoes or star fruits or lychee in Maryland :( And if I do, they are sooooooo expensive...

It's funny you should say that. My wife called me while she was having brunch with some friends in Shirlington this morning (a suburb of Arlington, I think), and she said she had a little fruit cup along with her eggs, bacon and toast etc....and the fruit cup alone was $4.00 while the rest of the meal was just over $5.00...

I guess it's a good thing I'm not a big fruit eater... The D.C. area seems to be pretty pricey when it comes to fruit.

It's funny you guys talk about mangoes... I remember buying one and not being able to eat it because I couldn't cut it properly. :(

Oh yeah, they're hard to cut, i know how to take the peel off like a pro and then I spear it with a big fork and then shave off the 'flesh' with a super sharp knife. And then I suck off the mango off the pit. I actually usually eat it as fast as i've peeled it.

I have one sitting in my fruit bowl right now. it's gonna be ripe soon!

I've been craving pyrogies and true Ukrainian cabbage rolls lately. Home in one month and I am going to pig out.

Me too :crying: Christmas wasn't quite the same without them.

Why is it that everytime I am hungry the OT thread is talking about food.....pizza....etc.etc...Now I really want Dominoes Pizza. There breadbowl pasta wasn't too bad!

Add perogies to the things I'll miss then.

I haven't had them very often lately...but for a long time they were a staple of my diet. When you think about perogies, you think of them as being fattening...but they're really not. High in carbs, yes, but very low in fat, and not very high in calories either. They're a good "staple" food to a diet. Just ask Oksana Baiul.

I'm going to miss poutine and covering my pancakes with maple syrup. I haven't thought of much else that I will miss food wise, but I dislike shopping at any Smiths or Albertsons grocery stores. I can never find anything. :(

That's for sure!! If I hear the phrase "Do you have your co-pay?" one more time I'm going to scream! Never thought I say this but I miss my GYN / MD!!

What the heck is a co-pay? I guess I'm lucky with my insurance, the only thing I've had to pay for is prescriptions, and they're actually cheaper than what I was paying in Canada! From what I've been told everything is pretty reasonable until you need an emergency service... and may god help you if its on a weekend or after hours

You guys are making me hungry... actually I've been hungry for hours. Back home we would always eat dinner at or before 5pm. Here? If we eat before 6:30 it is a minor miracle, usually its after 7. But I really miss perogies too! I looked for them in the grocery store here and they only have them with a noodle shell? A noodle? Weird. And Poutine!! I'd make my own but Bill thinks its "weird" and "gross" so nobody would eat it but me.

you can find perogies in the US.. Mrs T perogies are pretty decent...

Do they have a doughy like shell? That's what i'm used to. I find the pasta noodle textured shell weird..

One has to head to the Asian super markets, lot of fresh fruits/produce at decent prices!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
