Really? Have you seen her previous movies?? They were never really Oscar worthy. :P

Hurt locker was excellent... amazing!

But I still think avatar was better. I was surprised.

I've heard SO many good things about the Hurt Locker, but up until now I have refused to see it. Once my husband is back home I will make a point to watch it, finally. :)

And no, Sandra Bullock...ew.

For the most part I COMPLETELY agree. The only role I've seen her in that I thought was VERY well done was in Crash, which won best picture in 2004. It was a smallish role...possibly too small to have been considered for best supporting actress back then, but it was definitely a notable departure from her ditzy romantic comedies.

Typically she's been the Meg Ryan of the 2000's.

I really want to see Precious, I think it comes out on-demand tomorrow so Mike and I may watch it this weekend. I think it may be one those movies that makes you bawl though.

Really sad movies always seem to make the oscars.

Have you guys ever seen dancer in the dark? That was the only movie I watched that made me cry so hard. I couldn't stop crying.. it was sooo freaking sad. It started off sad and then just got worse. I still think its the most depressing movie ever... that I have seen anyways.

I haven't seen Dancer In The Dark, but I DO love Lars Von Trier as a director. I also haven't seen Antichrist yet, but I look forward to it.

Remember how I recommended Dogville to you last week, Sprailenes? Lars Von Trier directed that too. I don't think there's another director out there who can make you FEEL something so starkly and with such raw and ragged power.

I promise to watch Dogville if you promise to watch Dancer in the dark. :D

Dancer in the dark... just left me feeling drained, but a movie has never done that to me before. It was so great because it made you feel so much. Bjork actually said that she never wanted to act again after that movie because it depressed her too.

I also found it strange that during the "in memoriam" part they didn't even mention Farrah Fawcett but they mentioned Michael Jackson.

To be honest, I've only watched about 3 movies in the past 2 years, so no

So then how could you be surprised that she hadn't been nominated before? :P

She's been in Hollywood for a while, and in quite a few movies, so I had thought she had been nominated before. That's all.

Deal! I'll just have to watch it when Anna's not around, because I don't think she'd like that kind of movie. :P

Lars Von Trier is apparently a very difficult director to work with, too...demanding a ridiculous amount of work from his actors. Breaking The Waves was a great film too...as was Dear Wendy, which was written by him (and I suspect he had a hand in its direction, too).

I wasn't fond of Manderlay though. It was a bit TOO disturbing, and Bryce Dallas Howard just isn't a good enough actress for a movie of that caliber.

She was... she was nominated for best actress for her role in Miss Congeniality.

She was nominated for a Golden Globe for that one...not an Oscar.

OK, mondays are always kind of slow days at work. I read this story and just can't stop thinking about it. Maybe it's the little boy that perpetuates in all men, but the thought of a giant great white shark and a squid doing battle deep in the ocean is just cool!!
