So Varba decided to have a guys night tonight. I drove down to Baltimore and had a nice dinner with darkchilde and her hubby. I was gone for 5 hours and the guys are still here. I'll be spending the rest of the evening upstairs I guess!

I passed out from sushi overload last night! It was so good!

Last night I watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarves... it was on ABC Family :P I was so enthralled... havent seen that movie since I was 7 or so!

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Has anyone heard from Arabella? :\ Haven't seen her post in quite some time.

No, I haven't either. :(

I guess it's to be expected that people who are ultimately reunited often stop posting on VJ. I mean, their journey is at an end (for now), meaning they don't really need VJ as a resource.

I'm pretty sure I'll keep posting here though.

There are many posters I miss. Arabella, Chadlaure, Krikit (though she's obviously absent for different reasons)...and the worst part is that there are many posters that I used to love to read, but I can no longer remember their screen names, just their avatars!

I'm glad that all of them have been reunited with their spouses though. It would just be nice to hear from the VJ alumni from time to time.

Edited to add: OMG...as soon as I posted this, I just saw that Krikit was back!

Good morning everyone. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers. My Mum is progressing. She's not doing great, but she's progressing. She had open heart surgery to repair a large hole in her heart caused by the attack. She also had a bypass. The surgeon said he repaired it as best he could but, due to the extent of the damage, he didn't believe she'd survive. But she's a fighter and is hanging in there. She spent the first week in ICU, the second week on the cardiac surgical floor, and this past week on the rehab floor. They think she may be released by next weekend..... they'll see how it goes.

I was told to take the first flight to Toronto because there wasn't much hope, so I did that hoping I would see her alive one last time. I can't even begin to describe how much of a nightmare it all was. I was the first point of contact so took on the incoming and outgoing phonecalls. I did not sleep (literally) for two whole days as I was dealing with different time zones. And, of course, your brain doesn't shut off just because your body is exhausted. I went straight to the hospital from the airport. The surgery was something like 6 or 7 hours..... which is a veritable lifetime when you have nothing to do but reflect. Waiting for the surgeon to bring you the outcome...... you are too scared to visit the restroom or get a coffee in case you miss him. You have no idea if he is coming to tell you she survived or he couldn't save her.

Anyway, once she was stabilized and out of ICU, I returned to Florida to meet with the real estate agent and then fly to DC to look for a house. We got back late Thursday and I have been running around with various appointments and prepping the Florida house for sale or rent before I fly back to Toronto tomorrow. I'll stay two weeks then back to Fla to pack up the house and drive the cars up to DC. We'll be in temporary housing because we weren't able to find anything suitable on our trip. I may have to abandon further house or apartment hunting to my husband because my Dad wants me to come back, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Sorry I can't catch up on anything at the moment..... still have lots to do before I leave. I hope all is well with everyone.

What a nightmare, Krikit. So, so sorry to hear it.

If anyone can deal with it with perfect aplomb, you can.

Hopefully life has better things in store for you very soon. (F)

On a happier note..... I picked up some Olympic mitts while in Canada! LOL

Hehe. Those Olympic mittens were a godsend while waiting outside the Consulate on Friday, let me tell you!

So yesterday I'm chatting with my wife and asked her if there was anything specifically Canadian that she wanted me to bring down for her. She said, "Oh! I told my friend Lorraine that I'd have you get her a pair of Olympic mittens. Oh, and now that I think about it, my brother asked me if I could get you to get him an Olympics t-shirt. Oh, and I guess if you get something for my brother, you have to get something for my sister too." I said to her, "Uh, honey? I don't think there will be much left in stores now..." But I DID go down to The Bay and Zellers...and sure enough, not a single pair of mittens to be found, and the clothing racks at both stores looked like a pack of vultures had swooped down and picked the carcasses mostly clean. There were a few shirts in Extra Small size (her brother is 6'4"), and the occasional scrap of something else...but no, no Olympic stuff left really. Oh well! I just wish she had asked me a couple of weeks ago when I went and bought Olympic stuff for her parents!

Krikit: (F) Sending best wishes for your mother's continued improvement.

Wyatt:

I was able to pick up a pair of the coveted "Red Mittens" in Canada at the beginning of February. When I returned to the US and realized I should have stocked up I asked my son to get me more. By the time he went back, both Zellers and the Bay were completely sold out. He was able to get a pair on EBAY for $34!!! Silly boy...I told him to keep the tags on and save them for himself as a collectors item :)

Yeah, my parents both got a pair of mittens that they're keeping as mementos. I decided to wear mine. I really should have stocked up as well, but I just didn't think about it at the time. Oh well!
