Congrats Tmix!!!

We went to sign the agreement tonight... holy I have never signed my name so much. By the end of it my name just began to look like a scribble. :(

But the wheels are turning, closing date is April 30th so move in time will probably be in May sometime. We are going to try to make it a transition so we aren't rushing it in one weekend. We'll slowly take things over, clean up both places, paint etc.

Well it was a transition for us. When I first moved here we were with his parents for a year, and it wasn't an easy year at all. Then we rented for a little more than a year and just waited until the time was right. It takes time, all of it. Your time will come too!

Congrats Tmix on the house situation! And of course to you too, Sprail...again. :)

It'll be at least two years before my wife and I get into the market. We'd probably be getting a townhouse though, not a house house. But you never know.

Congrats on finally getting into the house Trailmix!! :)

Yeah, we've been living with Bill's parents since June, so our moving is well overdue. In the end our decision to buy was mostly practical. When mortgage= the going price of rent, why not buy? We're lucky in the area we're moving too, home prices are very affordable.

Yea we actually bought a condo... not an actual house. With the price of houses in this area a condo was our best bet. Also... I don't like raking, or shoveling, or gardening.

When I told my mom she said: "Wow you're like an adult now..."

It's nice to know what kind of lengths I had to go to get my mom to finally realize that.

@Marilyn- omg they really thought someone would fall for that!

@ j&k- good luck on the interview! An essay? I've never had to do that! I had to do a computer module for critical

thinking & problem solving that took me 2 hours! Oh and also a word document formattig test!

@ Joyce- graveyard shifts are definitely tough it's a lifestyle change! If your house isn't exactly quiet

I wouldn't recommend it! ...parents & sister at home in Canada...uuggh!I did them for 11 months @ at youth facility. It was rewarding but can be extremely stressful. The hardest thing to do at times is to learn to detach & not take things personally. If they weren't swearing or yelling at staff then we weren't doing our job! LOL!

I work nights--1900-0800, 3 days a week, and yep, they can be hard on the body. Especially if one has a bit of driving to do after the shift. i have had to pul over and take nap!! As well purchasing curtains that keep the light out are a must!! Plus you loose more time off, as I usually try and take a nap in the afternoon before shift. I have read report where the expected life expectancy for night workers is shorter tyhan those that work the reg 8-5 job. On the plus--at least at the hospital is that i dont have to deal so much with family members, lol and the shift diff is nice

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Sam and Minnew, you guys will be buying homes before you know it! Or at least getting your own place! The really low house market was one of the reasons why we decided to buy and not rent -- if we rented a house in the area we live now, we'd be paying more than our mortgage. So we both decided not to have a wedding but invest in a house! And Im really happy.

TM, sorry to hear about all the troubles. Hopefully all of them will come and go fast, and you can enjoy your new home!!!

Sprailenes -- condos rock! The security is awesome too, I never felt worried coming home late or having weird people come in the building.

Congrats to all of you closing your homes!

How exciting. It must feel real now! That's great that you can take your time moving from one place to another. Doing it all in one day is not fun!

While I do like yard work and all the good stuff that comes with home ownership I will say that condos do have their definite bonuses. My husband was in one for 10 years before I moved down. It was nice not to have to worry about upkeep and the amenities (pool and tennis courts) were great!

This isn't like a condo in a building, its... hard to explain. But it looks like a bunch of townhomes, and then inside are upstairs and downstairs condos. It's surrounded by woods, so there could still be a sasquatch lurking at night if I am coming home at a later hour....

I'll have to go over and take pictures. I drive by the neighborhood every day to pick my son up.. yesterday I timed it, 6 minutes! I am like the anti-commuter so it's great for me. However it's one exit up on the 295 which my husband takes home, so its about an extra 10 mins for him.. hahaha sucka.

So many parents didn't send their children to schools with lunch today... including me.

The tv said a half day for our school district. So anyways I get to work and go on their site and it says: "Sorry for the confusion, we are open on a normal school day until further notice... if you didn't send your child to school with a lunch, the cafeteria will provide your child with a lunch today"

Yay for making an a$$ out of u and me!

 I thought the same thing about the yardwork! I'm not a fan... But Bill actually enjoys cutting the grass, he does it for his parents voluntarily.

We looked at a bunch of condos and townhouses before deciding on a house. I liked the idea of townhouse living, and it seemed like you got better upgrades for your money, but I hated the stupid high HOA fees that were involved. Even though the house we bought was more expensive than the townhouses, the monthly payments will be less.
