wow Huggles. Sounds like home buying where you live is sure different than when I sold mine back home in BC. I HAD to have a lawyer. No getting away with that. But I think it was only about $500, so that's not too bad.

Still waiting to hear if I get that job at Bath and Body works. Weird thing is...the manager that interviewed me and another girl last Thursday, quit the next day!!! :o Very strange....I'm sure they know what they're doing, but still, I wonder if it means I'll have another interview. ( sure hope not ) I really want this job...the hours and flexibility will be perfect! ( not to mention the discount!)

I'll probably go by later today, and inquire.

I had to do that for my job. I'm a civil libertarian and was really spazzing out about it. The background part wasn't too bad, but I had to fill out this 300 question survey. The questions were insane, like asking me if I had ever used drugs, which ones, in what capacity, and get this, they wanted a precise times, places and amounts. #######. I had to submit as a secondary interview, an autobiography. That was a little strange.

Good luck with you move as well Huggles!

I always thought lawyers were standard for home purchases so I learnt something new today!

I found the process of purchasing our home in NJ much more complicated than selling my home in Welland. Between the closing of my husband's condo and that of our house purchase we were lawyered up all day! After 7+ hours in the lawyers' office he finally made it home....after I had dealt with the moving from one place to the other, all in the midst of torrential downpour.

Hope everything works out smoothly for you! :)

That's so weird OBX! I've found the process here in CO so unbelievably easy. Our Realtor and mortgage broker has done all the work, basically all we've had to do is give them some required documents, sign some papers and say no and yes when its needed. But thanks, and I'm glad everything worked out despite the torrential downpour!

It's not that I'm against using a lawyer, I'm just so new to the home buying experience that I had no idea a lawyer would even be helpful. It seems to be one of those things that vary by state?

Ok, I'm totally double posting, sorry.

Anyone know if you can change your settings so when someone adds you to their friends list it doesn't send an e-mail alert? It's slightly annoying.

That is one of the biggest scams on Craigslist. I ran into this a couple of times when I was searching for my last apartment. People will go through house listings and then take down all the pics and advert information and post it on craigslist for a cheap rent price. They will further try to entice you by saying that there is no security deposit, only a first months rent. If something is far below market value for rent, chances are it's a scam.

Another common variant on this scam is they will do the same searching for online ads of houses or apartments for rent or sale. They will then list their own ad for the property, but give you a story that goes like this : "I am an employee for Shell Oil and was recently transferred to London, UK, so I am sub-letting my apartment while I am on this year long project." Sounds convincing, until I looked at the caller ID and asked the guy why he was calling from a number out in the valley claiming to be in the UK.

ok so i finally got an email back from this ad... .. oh the ad on craigslist lists it as a 2 bedroom but the other ad I saw says it is a 3 bedroom

do people actaully fall for this ??

Thanks for your response regarding your interest in having my house for rent. The house is much available for now and it a 2 bedroom home...I want you to know that i am the owner of this building situated at _______________.But i am now presently in West Africa for my Hopitals Project prayer crusade with my wife and we have the keys right here with us.I will like to inform you that it was due to my transfer that makes us to leave the house and also want to give it out for rent and looking for a resposible person that can take very good care of it as we are not after the money for the rent but want it to be clean at the time and the person that will rent it to take it as if it were its own..So for now,We are here in West Africa,NIGERIA our new house and also with the keys of the house,we are trying to look for an agent that we can give this document before we left but could not see and we are as well as don't want our house to be used any how in our absent that is why we took it along with us here.We are only willing to give the house out to a lovely and caring family only, so if you know you cannot give the house the neatness it deserves please don ' t contact me.But if you promise to always take good care of the house, get back to me on how you could take care of our house or perhaps experience you have in renting a home.Hope you are okay with the monthly price of $1000 with hydro, heat laundry facilities,air-condition , below is the application form for you to fill and discuss on how to get the house for rent..Kindly confirm your interest by filling the form below:"

oh I love this little bit at the end of the email...

Looking forward to hear from you with all this details so that i can have it in my file incase of issuing the receipt for you and contacting you.Await your urgent reply so that we can discuss on how to get the document and the key to you, please we are giving you all this base on trust and again i will want you to stick to your words, you know that,we do not see yet and only putting everything into Gods hand,so please do not let us down in this our property and God bless you more as you do this..

Thanks

Thanks. Found out it's just part of the phase of hiring. I spoke with someone today, and she said if I don't hear back within a couple days, to call on Monday and ask when my next interview is. So I guess I can still consider myself still in the running.

I also got word today that the police station might be looking for dispatchers. Tim doesn't seemed thrilled, because of the possibility of graveyard shifts, but I think a job like that would really be interesting.

Hope something comes your way soon...

@Marilyn- omg they really thought someone would fall for that!

@ j&k- good luck on the interview! An essay? I've never had to do that! I had to do a computer module for critical

thinking & problem solving that took me 2 hours! Oh and also a word document formattig test!

@ Joyce- graveyard shifts are definitely tough it's a lifestyle change! If your house isn't exactly quiet

I wouldn't recommend it! ...parents & sister at home in Canada...uuggh!I did them for 11 months @ at youth facility. It was rewarding but can be extremely stressful. The hardest thing to do at times is to learn to detach & not take things personally. If they weren't swearing or yelling at staff then we weren't doing our job! LOL!

So we are in our new house. The movers showed up 1/2 an hour early, which is ok. Shaw cable had already cut off our internet and phone by the time we got up at 7 - that was not great. To make a long story short, none of our appliances were delivered - correction, they were all delivered when we weren't here

We gave both places our cell phone number. Both places called our regular number to say the deliveries were on their way. The one place said they have no record of our cell phone number, the other place obviously does because although they called our reg. number to say they would deliver between 9 and 1 - they managed to call our cell number to say they were here

So stove tomorrow, but washer, dryer and fridge, Friday :o

Have already left vm for the sales person on the friday delivery - I mean really, we need a fridge. Got the gas turned on for the hot water heater around 6pm, have a leak in the downstairs bathroom and the kitchen sink  (knew about the sink, the bathroom was a surprise! Thankfully we have a floormate to collect all the water).

Oh and the closing was all very last minute, in fact the realtor met us here with the keys when we drove over with the movers.

But aside from those inconveniences, we are here!
