My fiance said the same thing ... that a lot of jewelers attempted to get him to buy a ring with a diamond from who-knows-where just so it could be bigger. My engagement ring diamond is from the NWT too :D It's from the Daivik mine. Personally, I like diamonds, but I did say to my fiance months before he proposed that I did not want diamond if I didn't know where it was from. He actually gave me the certificate of the diamond after he proposed, saying "See?! It's from Canada, too!"

I would have gladly accepted any ring from my fiance, regardless if it was a diamond ring or even a ring pop :) He chose it for me, and for that reason I love it.

Mine too. We have twins. :D

I thought the latest marketing campaign was three-months salary for the engagement ring? Anyhoo, very ludicrous, would rather put that kind of money away for downpayment on a house!

Hubby got me a pretty and elegant princess cut 1 carat ring on 18K gold band for around $6K. I think it's the most beautiful and perfect ring I've seen! When one of my girlfriends showed off her diamond 1+ carat diamond ring on platinum, around $12K and another who had her appraised at $15K, I just kept quiet about my relatively "humble" little ring. I still thought my ring was prettier than their gaudy ones but they won't hear that from me, lol.

Agreed!! I've seen some 1+ carat ones too that are just gawdy and have no sparkle! I'd rather have one that has higher clarity but smaller. It's so ridiculous all for show those huge ones!

I love my ring and I have no idea how much it cost, nor do I care. With all the diamonds added together its a karat, so the center stone is probably 3/4 or something like that. I agree with whoever said the meaning and purpose of the ring is the most important thing. I guess for that reason I was always against the idea of picking out my own ring. I figured that when he proposed he would need to pick something out for me from the heart, and for that reason it means something extra special. It was definitely interesting hearing why he picked the one he did and how it reminded me of him! He actually put a lot of thought into it.

Speaking of huge rings, my MIL has a huge diamond. Apparently her and my FIL have "upgraded" it a couple times since they've been married. The center stone must be at least 4 karats, possibly bigger. Its just jumbo. When the light hits it just right it blinds you... I'll leave my opinions on that to myself since Bill reads the forum every now and then :P

I miss the sound of snow crunching under my boots in winter. Not shoveling though.

Me too!! It is possible we may see some snow here in February. Hmmmm wonder what "some" snow amounts to in central SC....

Back to engagement stories, we had just gotten home from the Las Vegas premium outlets! He had pretty much taken me to all the new places I hadn't been in his hometown, and we had to go home after the last stop, because I pretty much raided the Disney store. But anyway, it was time to go get some food, and I'm about to leave, and he stops me. And he asked me right then and there. I said, yes, but can we get some food? He was so nervous, it was so cuteee. :)

On another note, my friend want's a ring that adds up to a 6 month salary. Maybe that's why she's still single.

Oof. I could NEVER be friends with someone like that. If the value she places on an engagement is a purely materialistic one, what does that say about the REST of her values? Sheesh.

Ahh yes, winter, I didn't miss it at all when we were in Florida. Now that we are back here, in the winter, I would like to move again, just not someplace so hot - or for that matter someplace so far to drive to

I am having scrambled eggs with pepper and ketchup with a large side order of raw broccoli for breakfast. I know, it sounds odd but I love both those things and well, gotta get the veg in there, right?

I am not usually a juice drinker either but I treated myself to a 6$ bottle of fresh squeezed orange juice. Delicious.

I love the Simply line of juices.

The Limeinade (Or however you spell it) Is SO good. There's a new grapefruit one, havnt tried it yet. It's a bit pricy to.

And a ring that costs 6 months of salary? Sheesh.

I think mine was like... a week worth of salary or so.

Not that I care, it's pretty

I was looking at a website, and they had a 10 carat diamond ring for sale. It was HUGE. It looked terrible on the model's hand

It was 1 million dollars and it came with a 3 day trip to mexico.
