Varba and I have discussed buying a home of our own as well. We don't have a down payment right now so it's probably not a good idea. Also, where we live right now it's ridiculously cheap in rent and it's in an not too bad neighborhood. We figure in a couple of years we'll be able to get our own home. That's one thing I want before having kids, is our own home. We have WAY too much stuff.

One downside about not having our own place is we can't have pets here. We both adore animals and are kinda bummed. We have fish tho!

Lol My wife and I have owned a house for about a year and a half now and it's still really surreal to me. Owning a home was always so grown up and out of reach to me that I still don't know quite how it happened haha :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

having a house is not a "right" and I dont mean that in a bad way,lol Many in todays society are a "want now" bunch, they forget about saving $$$. Why wait?? I can just put it on my credit card and just pay the minimum! Oh lookeee the bank will give me $500,000 for a mortgage, but wait simple math/budget states I can't afford that, but who cares, buy that house anyways!! many people blame the banks for this fiasco and yes they are partly to blame, but come on, you know how much $$$$ you have coming in each month, you know how much your mortgage will be, so where is the confusion?? lol And yes there are other factors, but people just dont stop and think and the consequences!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Loved owning my home back in Canada. My late husband and I bought it, and ten years later after he died the insurance company paid off the mortgage! It's a nice feeling to be able to do what you want! Knock out walls, replace old windows..etc.

The down side of owning a home? You have no landlord to call when the plumbing goes, or the fridge breaks!

I really didn't consider it debt though. I mean, you have to live somewhere, and why pay off someone else's house!

Tim also owns his house. I'm so happy :D We're hoping to replace the kitchen floor and counter tops...and I get to paint, paint, paint!!

It's funny, there is this car across from our apartment and the car alarm goes off periodically, sometimes for hours - this has been going on for a couple of weeks. The owner is aware as I have seen him out there when the alarm is going off.

So finally last night after a few hours of this I email the manager. Give her colour and make of the vehicle, tell her it is across from our apartment and give her the license plate number.

Her response?

please note number on stall for me

Sure, want me to drive it over to the office for you too?

Yay, one more week to moving weeeeeeeeee!!
