Haha.

I went down on one knee...though it was midnight on New Year's Day last year, and we were at home wearing comfy, lounging-around clothes. For me that meant sweat pants. :P

I KNEW she would say "yes" though, so there's a bit of a difference!

I asked my hubby why didn't he propose on one knee and he replied it was a strategic decision that in the low probablility that I would say "No", he wouldn't look so rejected while down on one knee in public.

Fair enough, lol.

I love the engagement stories!! Bill took me into the mountains and proposed outside by a river. I was so shocked I just stared at him kneeling down in front of me and couldn't speak. He paused and said, "Amanda..." and then I realized he was looking for an answer!

That is sooo romantic!

That's hilarious!

So what would he have said to the restaurant patrons..."Yeah, I was just, uh, showing her my new cufflinks!"

awwww such lovely engagement stories.....

Tim wouldn't be able to get down on one knee because of his disability, and I guess he didn't want me to help him, lest I become suspicious... But he started the question off with...

"Would you consider leaving your island?" ( Talking about Vancouver Island, B.C. I lived there all my life ) Course with a question like that......I knew what was coming up... :)

Then he was concerned about holidays...how would they be spent with two different families. Too easy..Thanksgiving in October AND November.. July 1 AND 4th...no problems!!

We were actually in a hotel room at the time... ( not the way he planned to ask me...but conversation just sorta lead up to it that night) And after he walked to the safe..and brought out a very long gift...inside was the most delicate watch I had EVER seen. He then asked if I would be his wife.

Ummmm with that South Carolina accent..I thought he said I WANT you to be my wife..so I hadn't exactly said "yes". I just looked at him, smiled, and kissed him...( wouldn't that sorta tell you what I was saying... ) The next day, we went for a drive to Anna Marie Island and along Long Boat Key.. ( we were in Florida at the time) and we stopped to eat along the beach, and I said.." Oh my gosh!! We need to tell someone!!!" And he said..."Do you want to tell me your answer first, before we do?" Then I found out why he was waiting and I said "Yes, silly!!" We made a call to our friend in California, and I asked her to be one of my bridesmaids, and then started to call his family....We couldn't stop smiling.

Wow.... that was October 15, 2008.... ^_^

So I finally just received the Christmas presents and stockings from my parents-in-law. Needless to say, the package was supposed to be here before Christmas, while my wife was still here. They paid $26 for priority post from Buffalo...but it only just arrived TODAY...two and a half weeks after they sent it! :o

It sucks, because obviously my wife is back down in Washington D.C. right now, and I'm not certain when I'll see her again...possibly late this month, or perhaps just when I move down, depending on when my interview date is...

Well, at least I get to open a couple of stockings tonight while on the phone with her. :P

I just did a marathon reading in this thread and want to share my engagement story -- cause its a real hoot.

I edited it from my wedding website, as Im tooooo tired to be creative tonight :P

On November 2008, my husband flew to Toronto to spend Thanksgiving with me. I knew he was going to propose but I was not sure when, nor did I find "the ring" as I sneakily searched his luggage.

That Friday, we watched "Quantum of Solace", and had dinner at Terroni's.

The moment we got home from our date, I took my usual 45 minute shower not realizing that tonight was THE night. But apparently, it was... I realized that because when I got out of the shower, hair tangled and dripping wet, wearing a t-shirt with so many holes it looked war-torn, no make-up or jewelry and all, my husband was sitting solemnly on my bed, looking really worried.

I have read enough romance novels to know that this was not THE proposal I wanted to remember for the rest of my life. I went to him anyway, suppressing the overwhelming need to tell him "NOOOOO! CAN YOU WAIT UNTIL I LOOK NICE????".

When I settled in front of him, my husband took my hand, told me his feelings for me. He asked, "Will you marry me?" and pulled out a small, golden box that held my engagement ring . I started to say yes, but at that very moment, my sister decided to knock on the door.

Actually, she knocked loudly, stuck her head in, asked us if we were busy, barged in before either of us could reply, and announced that my mom has been waiting to talk to me the whole evening. Her exact words were, " Mommy's been calling for you all night long!!!!! Heeere!", before shoving the phone to my ear. All within the 30 seconds after husband proposed.

So the first words I said after husband's proposal of marriage was, "Hi Ma! Guess what, I got engaged. Now." To be honest, I don't really remember saying yes but I guess sometime during the evening I did, because we are married now :P

Mine proposed to me before a broken social scene show in Toronto.

It wasn't super romantic, but then again neither am I. :P

This was back in the day when Emily Haines and Feist were a part of the band... that makes it cool in my books.

I didn't even want a ring because I don't wear jewelery, and I hate diamonds, so he got me an emerald instead... for many reasons - its my birth stone and anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely LOVE the wizard of oz.

Aw, that's really cute, Darkchilde.

My fiance's a weirdo. He asked me to marry him the first night we met in person. He wasn't really being serious, it was just for the sake of saying it.

We didn't really do a whole proposal thing, we just talked about it and we went to go pick out a ring.

I didn't even tell my mom we got engaged, I actually tried to hide my ring, but then we got in the car and she said, "Why can't you tell us that you're engaged?"

I got a whole lecture after that, gee just what I needed while I was bawling my eyes out from having to leave him. Haha.

Honestly, I was only 18 so I thought she'd be mad or something.

I love all the engagement stories everyone! I feel compelled to share mine now, lol.

I knew that my fiance was going to propose sometime ... but the day that he proposed, I can honestly say that I didn't see it coming. We had been talking about taking a walk in the river valley for ages and this one particular Saturday my fiance was just like "Hey! Let's go take a walk in the river valley!" So, I agreed, we got ready and off we went. Apparently there were several times he attempted to propose (one particular time I got distracted by some really cute dogs, another time I challenged him to race up some stairs ... lol, in hindsight I really should have seen it coming). He ended up asking me right at the end of the walk, under some trees just off the fairway of a golf course (lol ... we were taking the scenic route back to the car!). I actually almost ruined that attempt as well because I was paranoid we'd get hit by golf balls or in trouble for being on the grounds, but he managed to get down on one knee and pop the question :) I freaked out and said yes right away, I think literally the second he finished asking me. Best moment ever :)

Aww, I love love!

Awwww all these adorable stories made me tearie eyed!!!

David proposed to me long before we got the ring. in fact it was the first week i had went down to chicago to be with him. there was this one night, his roomate finally left us alone at the apartment. cold and dark. we had been talkingg for hours about ourselves and things that happend to each of us. and i just opened up to him and bawled my eyes out and told him about my past etc. and he hugged me started crying and said he would take care of me forever and that he didn't want me to go back to Canada, and he asked if i would marry him. i'll remember that night forever. the lights were off and the moonlight was shining in the room on us as we sat on his bed holding each other and crying.

the next day we went to the county hall and got a marriage certificate. unfortuneately we had planned for a january 10 2009 wedding, but i went back to canada to get my dogs and that's when the "your not allowed into the usa" bs started. we have been separated ever since :( january 2010 now and still not married..which is why i guess i'm emo this month :(

blargh didn't mean to put a damper on this thread..so don't mind me.

Sometimes on FB my friends post pics of their newly born babies and some of those babies are damn ugly... sorry but they are.

The one baby has 3 sets of bags under it's eyes, he looks like a baby zombie.

Oops I posted about ugly after births in the lovey dovey moments, sorry guys. :P

Its definitely a good price! We're pretty lucky in the area we are looking to move to, housing prices are pretty low. We are looking at a couple town houses in a similar price range that are 1-3 years old. Unfortunately the biggest apartment we looked at was 740 sq ft. which didn't feel very big at all. Most of them are in the mid 600's, which felt tiny. I don't know what rent is like in Omaha, but for something that size we were looking in the $700- $800 range. I can imagine that a $1,100 sq ft. place would be pretty pricey... if we could even manage to find one. We don't have any pets and aren't considering getting any for a while, and kids aren't going to happen for a few years, so condo or townhouse living seems to suit are needs right now. I can totally understand not wanting to buy while your husband is still in the military, that would be a hard situation. We're actually looking at places really close to a military base, so the population in that area is really service member based. Maybe he'll get orders to come to Colorado! That would be fun!

I love the engagement stories!! Bill took me into the mountains and proposed outside by a river. I was so shocked I just stared at him kneeling down in front of me and couldn't speak. He paused and said, "Amanda..." and then I realized he was looking for an answer!

It really depends on what part of the metro

area you live in Omaha, being closer to the base you have lots of variety but not much good stuff. When my husband ( fiancé at the time) came apartment huntig this was the largest apartment he viewed. The other apartments were tiny and for the same price or more as the one he got now. He got a 2BD in anticpation of my arrival. Never hear traffic, lots of trees, deer and other wildlife, feels like I am in the forest living here and NO COLLEGE students!! It's quiet here. We pay $775.... Less with military discount... Rent just went up almost $100.... But we are grandfathered in... Thank goodness!

LoL I don't think Colorado is on his list unfortunately! Japan I think is! I'd love to go there for a few years! Hence no house right now because a colleague of his just bought a house..... Few months later...... Will be trying to sell it before this summer :(

That's true. It's always so weird going back home and I meet up with one of my friends and very few of them have ugly kids but some of them do and they go showing me their bambinos and I never know what to say... it's just awkward.
