Hi Everyone,

Ok...finally a subject that I can talk about...(lol..sorry, I don't drink nowadays...I have no clue about tequilas and whatnot..but I've had hangovers before though..don't want to talk about that...lol...puking is no fun...)

So let's move onto the topic of rings (as started by Rhiannercakes.....btw...glad you got that tight ring off..now you just have to figure out how to get it back on again...lol....perhaps you can get it resized bigger instead?)

As for how to wear my engagement and wedding rings....

Lol...I interchange back and forth....whatever fits the mood, I guess..

But nowdays I wear my wedding ring on the inside and my engagement ring on the ourside, as it feels more comfortable to me that way.

There is no wrong or right way to wear rings....As long as one wears the rings, then so be it....

Heck, half the time my husband and I don't even wear our rings in the house...it sure gets in the way when doing chores and whatever else....

And we both find ourselves saying..."Where are the rings?", and then go on a frantic search around the house for them...lol.....

Though when we go outside of the house, I always have to say..."Don't forget the rings and the baby!"..lol....(we'd never forget the baby, of course!)

I've always had problems with my rings being too big for me....

I had to get my engagement ring resized twice over the years ..and have said.."If I ever had to get this resized again, there will be no more ring left!"...lol...

Actually, there's a funny story behind my engagement ring and wedding ring too...

My husband bought my "conditional engagement ring" online

And we picked it out together on the computer...So no surprise there....

I told him that he didn't have to get me a ring at all, and to save up that money for something else instead..

But he insisted anyways, as a valentine's gift...sigh...

So he bought the ring online...sneaked it over the border to Canada with a box of chocolates...and gave it to me for valentine's day...

But...I gave it back to him...and said for him to take it back and that I didn't want it unless we did get married someday as I was indecisive at the time

I even actually said.."I'll think about it", when he asked me to marry him...

Which he then said to me..."I'll take the ring back, but on condition that you have to come over the border to visit me in the USA, or we call it quits"....

And not knowing what else to do, I crossed the border again in April...

I then visited, stayed, and...

Got married...on a whim, within a week....

We then had no time to shop for wedding rings either...so we just got some cheap silver ones for the ceremony....

And needless to say, I'm glad that we got the cheap wedding rings..as we've lost those rings over the years and have had to get replacements...

Lol..I think I'm on my second wedding ring now....and my husband is on his fourth wedding ring...

As for the engagement ring..I still have it (yes, he gave it back to me)...and surprisingly, I haven't lost it over the years....odd.....

And to think, I almost gave it back to him and almost called it quits...Luckily I didn't though..:)

And every time I look at my engagement ring, with the three diamonds on it..I think of our family....

Ant+D+BabyA...(L)(L)(L)

A nice reminder, indeed...... :luv:

Ok...So that's my ring story.....Now it's your turn...What are your ring stories?.....

Ant

Woo, I managed to get my engagement ring off!

I wanted to see if my wedding ring would go on, and with a bit of soap it would. Not exactly matching with my engagement ring, but one of the rings is also 3 years old.... then I couldn't get it off. Ehehe. I just struggled for like 5 minutes trying to get my wedding ring off and so I thought that I may as well try the engagement ring, it came off too.

Maybe with them off I'll help my finger de-swell a bit. I think the engagement ring came off easier because the band is rounded and more comfort fitting, the wedding ring is flat on the inside.

The thing is, my wedding ring looks kinda funny on top the engagement ring. How are the two generally worn? The wedding ring first than the engagement ring, or vice versa? Or is it a personal taste thing.

We have a condo, and it has been fine, but we are out of here this Spring. Will rent it out and were buying a house. Will be nice not to have people so close!

Ooh. We're looking at getting a bigger place this Spring too... Falls Church is a possibility... How's the commute into D.C.? How big is the condo? Is it a highrise? How much are you thinking of renting it out for? Any VJ discount? :P

$96K for a brand new condo? I can finance that on my line of credit! Vancouver's gonna make me broke...

lol, VJ discount, lol thats funny. Metro is just over a mile away. Just a regular condo, 1 unit below us and 1 unit above us, guess they refer to this styleof condos as "garden style" as there is just steps, no elevators. good for us, sucks to be people above us,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

@Ant

I'm considering getting my engagement resized to 5.5 instead of 5. I want to see a doctor first and see if they can figure out why I'm getting hives and if they do, treat it so I dont get them and swelling anymore. Generally the ring can easily be taken off and put on. I guess I'll see how that works out eventually.

I dont really have a ring story, I just went and picked my rings, haha.

Rhiannercakes-Hmm...maybe you are allergic to the components/elements in the ring.....

I've heard that the more closer it is to actual gold (if it is a gold ring or white gold ring), the less allergic it is..(lol..someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Actually, my husband had a similar problem..one of the replacement wedding rings made his finger green coloured..

Lol..needless to say we chucked that one out...and got a new one instead..

Seriously...if your finger doesn't heal...then you might as well exchange it for a new one. Umm..as much as you love your fiance/husband...

It's not worth losing a finger over to keep a ring that is making you ill!...lol....

Hope you do get that treated soon...as that's not fun to get hives and swelling..:(....

Lol..and yes, you do have a ring story..You just told that here on vj...hives, swelling and all...Thanks for sharing...:)

I don't have an engagement RING story per se but here's my engagement story:

One summer day, while I was visiting my boyfriend in Chicago (we were only dating for less than one year), he suggested we go to The Signature restaurant at the John Handcock's Building in Chicago. I said OK. Then he put on his suit (he hates wearing suits).

"Whoa...why are you wearing your suit? Is this a fancy restaurant?"

"Yep."

"Really? Geez, you could have told me ahead of time, so I can pack a nicer dress or something."

I scrambled to put something decent on.

We got to the restaurant. It's a posh restaurant with almost 360 degree breathtaking view of downtown Chicago. We got a seat with a view.

I quietly balked at the menu prices and ordered a salad. Boyfriend pursuaded me to order something bigger and I shook my head no. Our food arrived and we ate and chat. I turned my head away to take in the view. When I turned my attention back to him, there's a little velvet grey box in front of him.

"What's that?"

"Open it."

I opened it and it's a ring.

"Oh, it's a ring!...Wait, it's....an engagement ring."

Gawd I was so clueless, lol. So my mind raced--Sh*t! What do I say to him? So unexpected! And way too soon! I'm not ready yet! #######, everyone around our table is waiting for my response!

"Soooo...is that a Yes or a No?"

A lump formed in my throat and I couldn't respond. My eyes watered. I walked over and kissed him.

"I think that's a Yes?" He asked.

I nodded, still couldn't speak.

The restaurant errupted into an applause.

Then after dinner in the car, I gave him heck for not going down on his knees to propose, LOL.

I could consider that too.

I mean, I wouldn't really have to buy brand new rings. I could always get my existing diamonds mounted on something else, or get my white gold coated in platinum.

Ugh, I dont want to have to think about it. I just hope I'm not allergic to my rings

Haha.

I went down on one knee...though it was midnight on New Year's Day last year, and we were at home wearing comfy, lounging-around clothes. For me that meant sweat pants. :P

I KNEW she would say "yes" though, so there's a bit of a difference!

Wow! That's pretty good huggles for a brand new condo! We live in an apartment that is around 1100 sq ft. I love the view and the quiet surroundings but now that we have a puppy we would like a house type atmosphere instead. We have thought about purchasing but I don't think we are ready. Maybe after hubby retires fromthe military and we can find a place to settle down first. It's too risky to buy and then try to sell because you have orders somewhere.

Home prices in the Omaha area for brand new construction start around $150-175 which isn't bad at all for first time homebuyers/newlyweds.

This summer we plan to move to military housing which will be all brand new as they are renovatig or tearing down OLD housing. Sort of like a townhouse I guess, I still feel like we are throwing rent away, but renting a house that size almost 1500 sq ft, 2 car garage would be WAY more expensive in private market.

Its definitely a good price! We're pretty lucky in the area we are looking to move to, housing prices are pretty low. We are looking at a couple town houses in a similar price range that are 1-3 years old. Unfortunately the biggest apartment we looked at was 740 sq ft. which didn't feel very big at all. Most of them are in the mid 600's, which felt tiny. I don't know what rent is like in Omaha, but for something that size we were looking in the $700- $800 range. I can imagine that a $1,100 sq ft. place would be pretty pricey... if we could even manage to find one. We don't have any pets and aren't considering getting any for a while, and kids aren't going to happen for a few years, so condo or townhouse living seems to suit are needs right now. I can totally understand not wanting to buy while your husband is still in the military, that would be a hard situation. We're actually looking at places really close to a military base, so the population in that area is really service member based. Maybe he'll get orders to come to Colorado! That would be fun!

I love the engagement stories!! Bill took me into the mountains and proposed outside by a river. I was so shocked I just stared at him kneeling down in front of me and couldn't speak. He paused and said, "Amanda..." and then I realized he was looking for an answer!
