Hi Everyone,

I'm making a VJ timeline here for those of you who are US Citizens nd have decided to register to vote in the next election...

Feel free to add your "Voter's Registration Applicants" timeline to the list too...

Hi Ant,

I've added one more category - I notice on my card that the effective date of the registration was 10 days after they received it, although I didn't get the notification card until about 6 weeks after they had received my application. Isn't all registration done by County as well, rather than City/Town?

Hi Kathryn41,

Thanks for updating the list and adding your timeline too, as that's helpful as well...

You're right in saying that the registration is done by the county instead of the town/city. My error there..I'll have to fix it when I update the list again...

Interesting too, that your card has an "effective date" on it, as mine doesn't say that....

Mine only says (on the back of it)...."your voter registration application has been approved and is effective immediately"....

I guess this means that if an election were held today/tomorrow (or as of 1/4/09, when my card was postmarked)..I could vote in that election?..

I'll update the list with my info...and ask more questions about this card later....Interesting, this card is, indeed! Lol..

By the way, what's the deal with registering for a particular party anyways?

I never did understand that here in America, that one has to choose between the 3 main parties to vote for, before they actually vote....

I certainly didn't have to do that when I voted in Canada..(and there were 5 main parties different to choose from then too..lol...)

Wasn't it supposed to be a "secret" or something like that, as to who we want to vote for?....

And by telling which party we are "registered" with, doesn't this contradict the "secret" thing?....

I guess not then...Weird how voting works here in America....

Oh well, on the bright side..At least in America we get to vote, regardless of how weird the system may be...

And we should be lucky that we have that opportunity here....

Not in Wisconsin, when voting can vote for a straight party with one check, or break it down by office. But whoever is running for president or governor, stuck with whatever person they picked. Many offices run unopposed, can vote for the one person running or write your own name in.

Not in Georgia either. You are not required to register with a political party to vote. I think once you declare for one party or another you get innundated with phone calls and mailings and donation requests - a good reason as far as I can see 'NOT' to register with any political party!

Ant - you need to be registered 30 days prior to an election in order to vote in it, so that is why they have an 'effective' date on the Registration card, I suspect.

Lol..Don't worry, I'm registered early enough for the next election..."effective immediately", as my card says...

Too bad I missed the last one by 2-3 weeks or so..Oh well.....

2010 onwards, I shall go and vote!!!

(and try and convince my husband to vote too..lol..that's another story...)
