to come on a visit your mother in law must qualify on her own. She must show that she has enough ties to make it likely that she will return and not try to stay in the US. You can send a letter of invitation to invite her but the rest is on her. It will help is she has a high paying job, family to return to, a large bank account, and owns her own home.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Here is the link for the US embassy in Ghana and how they go about applying for a b1/b2- visitor's visa.

http://ghana.usembassy.gov/niv_application.html

The embassy in Ghana seems not to care about a letter- but worth sending. Its more about showing ties to Ghana- job, family, house. At times it may take months to get an interview for a visitors visa.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for for your help and quick reply,

- Are we supposed to send a copy of the invitation letter to the embassy in Ghana or it is my mother-in-law who has to send it during the interview.

-Are we not supposed to send an affidavit of support to show are our financial status like banks statement and income as it shown on the I134?

Thanks again.

You can send it to your mother in law to take to the embassy. You don't need to show your statements. They assume because her visit is temporary that you will be able to take care of matters.
