CA Driver's License & Insurance - UK Driving Record!

Hi all--

My husband recently got his Permanent Resident card (Hooray!) and we're now in the process of getting him set up to drive in California. Here's the issue...

He passed the California Driver's Exam at Christmas and is now ready to be insured. However, our insurance is asking for a copy of his UK driving record (in order to prove he's had a clean record abroad for many years).

I went online to request this from the UK "DMV" and was told that since he did not own a car while in the UK, there would be no "record" for them to give us (since the records there are tied to vehicles, not licenses).

Does anyone know of another way to prove he's had a clean driving record in the UK? Thought maybe someone else from the UK had possibly encountered this... Thanks in advance for any help!!

You say your husband didn't own a car in the UK, but did he ever have a UK DL?

They'd probably accept a copy of the 'green copy' of his UK driving license... showing he has no penalty points.

My SO used Geico and they didn't ask about his UK driving record.

The paper section of the UK DL shows all of your driving history - if any, i.e. Penalty Points etc.
