My hubby and I have our AOS interview on January 25th. He's from Ukraine.

Assuming he gets his green card, this summer we are hoping to take a trip to France to visit my grandparents who live in Paris. As an American, I can travel to France for 90 days without a visa. As a Ukrainian, he needs a visa to visit France. After he gets his green card, is he traveling as a Ukrainian or as an American permanent resident? Does he need a visa?

thank you in advance... these forums are lifesavers.

He is traveling as both. A Ukrainian citizen and a US Premanent resident. If he needed a visa before, he will still need a visa EXCEPT for Canada, Mexico and Carribeaan Islands where his Green card will be all he needs (doesn't even need a passport for those, just the green card)

He will apply for the visa for France as Ukraine citizen with US permanent residency. He will find it MUCH easier to get visas as a US permanent resident.

Agreed. We have a friend (Ukrainian) who took a cruise to several countries in Europe with her husband (USC) recently. She traveled under her Ukrainian passport, but easily got a Schengen visa. The toughest part was getting to the consulate. Vika and I just got back from the Caribbean last week - and a GC was all she needed (for the islands we visited).
