Hello:

Just wondering if anyone here has run into this problem, and knows what we need to resolve the situation.

As a Christmas gift, my Russian wife and I sent our Russian son (16 years old) back over to Russia for the holidays, to see his grandparents and cousins. He had no issues getting there OK. However, on his return, the authorities at Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow would not let him board his flight back to the US - apparently there is a Russian law barring international travel by minors travelling on their own. We're told we will need to travel to the nearest Russian consulate (when they reopen - all Russian domestic and foreign offices are closed from Jan. 1 - 10th) and get some document allowing him to leave the country.

Has anyone ever run into this problem, and have any tips as to what we require (documents, etc)?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Russian Border Control is correct. Children under 18 must have a written notarized permission from their parents/guardian when traveling unaccompanied. I wonder if written statement notarized by a local public notary will do it...

Sounds like your wife should call the nearest Russian consulate or the embassy in D.C. to explain and assist with this problem.

Sorry about the situation. Russia has lots of weird laws.

I really just responded to say that I hope that Kleesma is not your actual last name. But I laughed.

Nope - my pen name is actually Meeshok Kleesma. It's a running joke between me and my wife. :-)

Send him back to the airport and tell him to give $300 to whomever is telling him "no". Edited by akdiver

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Heh. Just as long as it's not Meshonka Kleesma.

So I know a few words in Russian but this "inside joke" flew right by me. A gay-porn-infused google search later and I now understand why.

Send him back to the airport and tell him to give $300 to whomever is telling him "no".

This would be my advice as well.

Probably the best bet.

Yep, he needed parent permission. Do not be surpirsed if they need permission from the biological father also. Did he have copies of the permission letter you needed for his K-2 visa? We always have that with us when we travel to Ukraine (same law) until our youngest son is 16. They need to see it when we leave each and every time.

Not very often, and almost exclusively by accident.

The last time (and only other time) it's happened was when my wife was saying something about a "chocolate prince." I thought she was referring to an Easter candy or something but turns out she had this long elaborate email message on some guy who was sodomized repeatedly and then had excrement rubbed all over him - all part of a Red Army hazing ritual. (Really makes you rethink that whole "should we get our son a Russian passport" thing, huh?)

Well, I guess they must've awakened his inner pideraska because some years later, he's recreating his ####### rape fantasies and capping it all off with some nice "chocolate" rubbed all over his body. And he wasn't scared to show it to the rest of the world. He'd posted a blog, complete with photos, as somewhat of a confessional so he could get over the whole rape thing and start celebrating his new-found love of ####### sex and subsequent fecal body paint.

Those images shocked me almost as much as the video of the Chechens sawing through the Russian soldier's throat with a hunting knife. It wasn't so much the image, it was the fact that I knew, somewhere, that was real. That really happened.

I can understand why people cut each other's throats.... but wiping exrement all over your body after being sodomized? Ah, that's just not normal.

You wouldn't believe what I found on my wife's computer screen recently. We had just finished watching a Netflix movie on her computer and I happened to close the browser window. Behind it was another one, and on that page there was a woman in the woods, lacking any clothes, and involved in a bodily function. I called out to her, "sweeeeeetie???? Is there something about you I should know???" She came downstairs to where we were (we had two guests over), looked at the screen and turned beat red. She then explained that a lot of the time, sites she uses to view Russian movies and stuff throw up these kinds of windows trying to get people to come to their sites.
