It's not effective to simply pull people in who look the part. Concentrating all your efforts on very specific profiles could easily lead to missing other genuine threats, this is a real problem and one that should be taken seriously. Behavioural profiling is effective, so why risk alienating the younger, potentially influential members of a community to satisfy some desire to target muslims?

For USA-bound flights, I would suggest to adopt the Israeli Govt's Airport Intake screening process, back at each origin point. It's a bit backwards, sure, but the model will work, absolutely.

Exactly. If you start pulling all folks named Mohamed, Ahmed and Omar to the side, your Richard Reid's and Jose Padilla's will easily slip through the cracks. Much less likely with the kind of behavioral profiling that El Al successfully employs.
