If Canada does it the same way the U.S. does, they need to be "certified" which is different from notarized. Certified has the stamp/seal of the Canadian equivalent to the U.S. County Clerk. But yes, it needs to have a little raised marky thingy.

I had to send a copy of mine with DS2001 and DS230, if I recall. It didn't have to be certified or notarized. I'll check whether I should bring it to the interview. But if so, it should be no problem. They'd just compare the original (actually, the notary issues another one - not an 'original', but not quite a copy) with the copy and then return the original one.
