did you see any of the guys there for their interviews wearing ties?

What about a "sportcoat" (suit & tie) ??

I was considering wearing at least a tie, but what do you all think? (both ladies and guys please reply)

My Fiancee went in a nice sweater (jumper) and black jeans with nice shoes. Had it been me I'd have gone in what I consider business casual. I don't think a suit is necessary but that's me.

When I had mine two years ago everyone was dressed very casually - mainly in jeans/sweaters. The interviewing officer will only see you from the chest up and the interview will last for just a couple of minutes.

I'm not laughing at you, just the memory of being in this position. "Do they want me to wear smart trousers and blouse?" It is an interview after all...

No, they really don't care. In fact, they barely looked at me the entire time I was there! I went in jeans and a jumper, and do did everyone else by the looks of it.

I got mad at Dave when I called him while he was at the hotel in London the night before the interview. He told me that his jeans he was laying out for the next day looked really worn out. I FREAKED!!! But after the interview he told me EVERYONE was wearing jeans. He even saw the Irish guy on 'IT Crowd' at the embassy waiting for a visa.

Our VisaJourney started July 2009 when I mailed the 129-F

Fiance here February 2010, married 10 days later

GC received in the mail 10-Jun-2010

Able to apply to remove conditions 12-Feb-2012

BABY GIRL BORN JULY 2011!!!

Dont worry. It's only an interview in the sense that you are asked questions and are expected to answer them.

They do only see you from the waist up, and they dont care what you are wearing. I must have looked like a mess by the time I got there. It was in june, so I was hot, sleepless and crazy eyed from adrenaline and unwarranted fear.

Wear something you feel comfortable in. It could be a long day if they are busy.

I agree. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Wear something comfortable. Jeans are fine. You'll see loads of people all waiting for visas - most of whom are students. The 'interview' isn't a sit down thing, you just walk up to the equivalent of a bank teller window and confirm the answers to questions that you've already answered. If you look at the stack of papers in front of him/her you'll see they already have a confirmation stamp on them.

The red 'approved' stamp that you can see on the paperwork is for the I-129F, not the visa.

Maybe things have changed - mine definitely wasn't for the I-129F. At the point at which you have your interview they've pretty much made their decision...rather like arguing in front of the Supreme Court.
