My wife says it's due to the lack of iodine in their diet and/or water. I'm curious if anyone has heard this explanation before? Now myself I believe it's due to genetics and lots of exercise seeing how just about everyone in Belarus walks, takes trains, and/or bus not to mention all the stairs they climb day in and day out seeing how elevators are few and far between.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I have not heard this explanation.

I think a lot of it is just perception. They're foreign, they've got that whole Russian "mysterious" thing going on, pleasing accents, typically an eye for fashion, and if you like "anglo" features, they've got it in spades. :)

When does your wife get here? Any big plans?

Well as far as the "mysterious Russian thing"....Belarusians in general don't seem all that different than Americans in a lot of ways. Not sure why, but they never came off as "mysterious" to me. The accent is a big plus and fashion. OMG mox, I miss the click click click of the high heels on pavement. I'm dying to hear it again. Mini skirts, short summer dresses, shades, cell phones glued to the ear, while making that click click click sound when they are walking. I'm dying here Alaska mox :( Iv'e been to western Europe a few times visiting family (Frisia/Netherlands), but Belarus wrecked me for life. I miss the dacha with her family, getting blasted with her dad and then going hunting...which always results in shooting anything that moves and doesn't move. One of these days we will actually get a boar.

She gets here next month and no real big plans atm...other than shopping, hit a few resteraunts, and dancing. She starts her new job here about a month after she gets here, so it's going to be hectic...SSC...SSN building, DMV for her license, Wells Fargo for her bank account...she wants her own, and that gets her a visa debit card ..oh and a cell phone. I was hoping for something a bit more exotic like a trip to Seattle but I only have a week of vacation time until next Fall....meh.

So how's things in your world these days mox ?

er . . I hope you're not expecting her to be wearing her high heels and mini-skirt on the sidewalks of Alaska when she arrives next month . . . ;)

I miss Russia too, and I've traveled pretty much all over Western Europe and the UK. (Scotland comes in a very VERY close second, and sometimes it even edges Russia out depending on how much Scrumpy Jack I've had. :D) If I spoke the language better, I really could see myself retiring there. Of course, even on a modest retirement income we'd like pretty high on the hog, so maybe I wouldn't be experiencing the "real" Russia, but that's ok too. :D But yeah...summertime at the dacha (someday I want to spend more than a week there!), winter in town trying to avoid meter-deep potholes and spraying slush from the busses--oh wait--actually the winters kinda suck. :D

My wife wanted her own bank account too, and we had the hardest time convincing the bank to open one in her name, because we hadn't filed AOS yet. She did have a SSN though, and they finally took that and her passport as ID. The DMV, however, wouldn't budge, and we had to wait. Make sure you do some joint stuff though too, like putting her on utility bills and club memberships. They'll want to see that at AOS.

She doesn't wear mini skirts in Belarus either. Hundreds of thousands of women in mini skirts in Belarus, and I end up with one of the few that's into jeans and/or a sweat suite combo or slacks.

No TOS violations in this thread that I can think of. Well I'm going to guess there is the slightest of possibilities that the title of this thread will draw fire from a few women married to Canadians (not you of course :) ) and they will most likely flame me/us for being fat old American pigs...or something like that. And of course there will be the usual retorts. But no TOS violations in praising the women of Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus that I can think of. :)

OK, I know this sounds stupid...but what's the "AOS" ? And if we get a joint bank account instead of separate bank accounts and put the utilities in both our names along with putting her on my auto insurance...will this to the trick for the "AOS" ?

Adjustment of Status. It's your next step when she gets here. Basically you file a metric ton of paperwork and eventually get a date for an in-person interview. You'll both attend, bringing along the requisite documents and evidence, and when they're satisfied that you're a bona fide couple they'll send you on your merry way and she'll get her green card a couple weeks later. Check out the guides for the process, and definitely ask here if you have any questions.

We put her name on my bank account, but also opened up a personal account for herself. Basically anything that shows you really are living in married bliss together will help...so yeah, auto insurance, joint bank account, joint property, etc.

I think Why_Me filed a CR1 which means he doesn't have to file AOS... his wife will need to file for Removal of Conditions 2 years after she moves here though

It's ok - I'm not married to a Canadian either - my husband is :D . You'll find very few of we Canadians actually into 'flaming' either - unless you're talking about the Calgary Flames Hockey team. We share things in common with our RUB sisters too- especially weather-wise! Speaking of which, I gave my share of winter away when I moved here so I would sure like someone to come and take it back!

I want to start the 'Welcome Home Kittie' Postcard Campaign !!!

Hehehe, I'll contribute!

Ya- the OP can send out a postal address via PM (to all that show interest) then we each send a 'Welcome Home Kittie' greeting card or postcard, from all over CONUS and da rest of the World.

I think his lass will be so touched, she won't frickin notice how bent out of shape he is, to get that frickin cat into Alaska.

I'm a cat lover, though, seriously .

To the OP - I'm serious.
