It's pretty difficult to take 3 hostages with a knife.

Especially when there are people with guns around!

One, possibly, but you need to get up close and personal to do it, not stand 25 feet away and threaten, as you can with the smallest of firearms. Reasonably happy we got that one squared away.

If you stand 25 feet away and threaten me with the smallest of firearms, I'm probably going to kick the living sh!t out of you after I close that distance.

And the marine? Without a gun, he can't start firing in an apartment building parking lot. No.2 sorted.

I bet your average Marine could kill more than one guy at a time with just a knife. Hell, I bet he could kill more than one guy at a time with just his bare hands.

You see, it's a lot more effort to be a danger to a large number of people with a knife that it is with a gun. You have to get close, within a person's own reaction space for each intended victim. Bad guys are less willing to do that, as it puts them at risk, too. But with a gun you can stay clear of the other person, stay out of their reach. And you can shoot many more people than you can stab with a knife. That's why you never hear of stabbing rampages. It's just too much damned effort.

I love this argument from you fcUKers. "You can only kill one person at a time with a knife."

Oh... you got me!

So no, they wouldn't have happened with a knife.

So drunk Marines in the UK have never gotten p!ssed and caused danger to anyone with say, a pint glass? (I've heard that's going to be next on the "banned list of dangerous items" in the UK.) Or is that OK since they can only kill one person at a time with a pint glass?

All of you "guns are bad" folks should thank your lucky stars you've never needed one... and then pray you never do.
