I had planned to see it last Monday but found that the 7pm showing had already sold out by lunch time. I'd recommend buying the tickets online, way ahead of time.

Whether or not something is offensive is of course subjective & some people are more sensitive than others, but I saw nothing in the Golden Compass that I considered anti-Christian.

In the books at least, a major plot element is the quest to kill God, also refered to as the Authority, the Creator, the Lord, Yahweh, El, Adonai, the King, the Father, the Almighty. I'd definitely see that as anti-Christian.

At the end of the day these are all fictional stories, and its the prerogative of the viewer or the reader to take from them what they want..

I think its fine to discuss the content and themes in these things, but when people start talking about propaganda, I think its being taken rather too seriously.

The Golden Compass makes a general point about organized religion being phoney and corrupt. Pullman uses the Catholic Church as his model for The Magisterium because he drew it from his cultural background.

Kill god? That doesn't seem feasible. If I believed in some entity called god, I certainly would not believe that it could be killed. Clearly god is not a linear entity, nor is it bound by such trivialities as life and death. Oh well.
