I am appalled any conservative would be upset by this. It is an animated hollywood film, not proof of anything.

Shall we base our native American Policy on John Wayne movies? What a bunch of marooons!

Some of the more fringe conservatives do pick the most ridiculous subjects to get outraged at. Anyone remember the group that felt that Harry Potter books undermined American Christian values?

Avatar[/i] was a poorly written propaganda but nice special effects movie. Just insert evil military industrial complex with mostly white guys (minorities don't leave the Earth much in the future) against blue-skinned natives literally attached to the natural world and living in a huge tree and you've summed up the grade school plot.

 Yeah, personally I thought it was a bit trite in terms of plot and themes. I also felt that things like the military robots were borrowed from other movies and the movie had a distinct Hollywood feel.

On the other hand, the CGI was really pretty, but I kept asking myself where I had seen it before. I feel like I have seen it before in some form of artwork.

But I would still watch a sequel because it was definitely entertaining enough.

Or the "Golden Compass" was anti-Christian? Personally I'm secure enough in my opinions to not get bent out of shape over such somewhat trivial things.

I don't remember the U.S. military part much in Transformers. I thought the good robots were the heroes in that movie.

Anyone notice the big flaws in the megaproduction (spoilers)? Here's my short list and add your own:

Arrows that can't break glass do so later.

No explanation to Navi why the sky folks want their tree.

No explanation about the use of avatars when the locals know they aren't real locals.

Floating mountians?

Missiles that destroy the mega tree but can't destroy a much smaller tree later

Helicopters- so advanced for the 22nd century.

Seriously, you read far too much into a movie. The film was already 2 hours and 45 minutes. If they were to satisfy your paranoia and explain everything it would have been nearing 4 hours.

He asked for opinions, I gave mine. No one has to act on my opinion.

Oh, and being perceived as the grumpy dwarf because of my opinions does not bother me at all ;)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's an awesome movie & the last thing I was thinking about while watching it was politics. Sure the Lieutenant Colonel & businessman were portrayed as total douchebags & everyone was rooting for the Pandorians, but I saw the movie as a form of entertainment (nothing more).

My thoughts exactly.

So, we're going to see a movie tonight. It's either Avatar or Sherlock Holmes. Recommendations?

I give 2 thumbs up to Avatar. But, I am dying to see Sherlock Holmes. Double Feature???????

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

I believe the arrows broke the glass because the archers were shooting from the back of moving aircraft.

300 had more offensive political subtexta than Avatar, but science fiction has always used real world events for thematic subtexts.

Ever read Dune? Its all about the middle east, with jihadi martyrs as the heroes.

The critics don't like avatar because its topical, not because the themes employed are particularly offensive.

There weren't any archers on the aircraft. The Navi were riding those flying lizards. You didn't see the movie apparently.

300? I'm not worried about offending the current Iranian government running the show for 30 years. We owe them nothing.

Saw Dune. It wasn't so bad and yeah the sand was a giveway the story had Middle Eastern allusions. Spice=oil.
