If you do not have a green card or an employment authorization (EAD), then you are not allowed to work in the U.S.

You say that you have a SS card that allows for work. Are you sure it allows you to work?

Even though your SSN may imply you can work, a proper employer will not emply you without the EAD or GC document. So no, you need one of these in order to legally work in the US>

Probably correct but the OP has some reason to believe they are already authorized to work. I'd like to hear why they think so. They are probably simply misinformed.

SS cards are NOT work authorizations. They are needed in ADDITION to work authorization. You need an EAD or Green card. Filing for the EAD is FREE when applied for at the same time as your AOS, why would you not do this?

Yes, my social security card specificly states "WITH WORK AUTHORIATION". I'm not sure how misinformed I could be about a such a simple statement. The social security rep. filed my s.s.c. this way because my I-94 was stamped with temporary work authorization. Whether or not that allows my SSC to have work authorization, My card does indeed have that I am allowed to work. So, the question remains.. but I will just file EAD to be safe.

ERM - that means you need "with work authorization" which is either the EAD or Green Card.

If you do not have either one of those - you cannot work - since you do not have the proper work authorization:

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Actually, a Social Security Card with no restrictions is an I-9 List C document that establishes employment eligibility, according to the handbook for employers.

the social security card is stamped "with work authorization" this means you need to provide additional proof (EAD or Greencard) that you are authorized to work. You are confusing this stamp to mean the social security card stamped "with work authorization" means it is valid for work purposes.

A normal, non restricted social security card has nothing stamped on it.

Yes you need proof you are authorized to work such as EAD or Greencard.

This is the most descriptive. My SS card, being an US-born USC, has nothing stamped on it. I don't need any other work authorization to work in the US.

Your card states that you can work "with work authorization" meaning you need something else besides this SS card to work. That something else is the EAD or GC. Very simple?

It means you need work authorization. the i-94 stamp is meaningless without an EAD for the K-1. The k-1 is not a work visa. YOU ARE NOT authorized to work without an EAD or Green Card.

The SS card does not and cannot authorize work. It is not a valid work authorization document, not even for a citizen.
