 If you say so.

I said, if anyone fears anything about illegal immigration, that is what they fear. No one fears illegal paddy in the Irish bar.

When was the last you spoke to a Irishman freshly arrived, illegal or not, I guess there may be e few scattered around the country but very rare in most parts. What would you suppose the ratio is?

....so I guess that makes a perfect comparison how?

I don't look at people and make any assumption as to their legality or otherwise so I have no idea.

As to illegal immigration, I really don't care about it one way or another. I don't fear illegal immigrants, I don't envy illegal immigrants, I don't really think that much about them at all except when one of these threads appears and then I just find it funny how upset people get about the situation partly because it's not something that I should get involved in on a personal basis, it not being my job to sniff them out and deport them but mostly because on the grand economic scale I am not convinced that illegal immigrants are a net loss to the USA. Of course, I have sympathy for those people that can't get below minimum wage jobs because the illegals have that market cornered...*can of worms opening*

1. why avoid the point you raised? Do you often meet people with an Irish accent?

2. I got news for you MC, these new comers arent taking "below minimum wage jobs" they often are working in jobs which pay better than that by far. Painters Carpenters, Landscaping, domestics, meat packing, chicken plants you name it they have displaces 10s of thousands of "living-wage" jobs.

Sure they work cheaper but let be realistic.

Avoid what point? I don't assess the people I meet for legality period.

Why would an employer risk taking on an illegal unless there was some financial benefit or they could not find anyone else to do the job? You can't take a job from someone who is unwilling to do it.

If don't care about illegal immigration why bother posting on the issue?

You don't believe there's a net loss from illegal immigration? So you must also believe they're a net gain and we should have no restriction except barring criminals. I know of no developed nation with that policy. Look up "external costs" and you'll find out why it's cheaper to hire an illegal and pass the other costs on to the taxpayers.

Still waiting on the those figures on the illegal Irish hordes coming here. Here's a tip for ya- Ireland hasn't been a net exporter of people for years so your views are out-of-date.

About as out-of-date as the using the 18th and 19th century plight of American Indians to justify 21st century open borders and unlimited, unregulated modern day mass immigration. References I've seen twice recently here on VJ. Along with the usual references to the Irish, Italians, etc. Are these people clueless that this is 2010?

Really, let's get real. We have 10%+ official unemployment which probably translates to 16-18% unofficial unemployment. Along with the underemployment of Americans working part-time jobs. The Dumbocrats have decided to mass amnesty millions of illegal foreign nationals and give them all residency, work permits, and eventual voting citizenship while there are tens of millions of unemployed / underemployed Americans suffering the worst recession in decades.

And that sh*t is just the tip of the iceberg of the moronic legislation these idiots propose. The rest of it stinks even worst. To say that these idiots are out of touch with Main Street Americans is an understatement. It borders on treason toward the American people.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

It's the cost versus the benefit in the big picture you have to consider, not whatever rhetoric sheriff Joe is plugging.

As for the anger against illegals, my point, such as it was is that it is always directed towards the visible 'illegals' no matter what their actual status in the US is and that's no race card.

I already said why I bothered to post. Incidentally, basically, if it was up to me, yes, I would have no restrictions on immigration beyond barring criminals and known terrorists. I don't really care that that isn't a position adopted by any other developed nation. However, luckily for you I don't have any political aspirations and will not be setting out my stall to ensure this becomes national American policy ;)
