Hey there,

I have few questions

1) how long does it normally take for K1 to be approved? My fiance submitted the forms last mth and still waiting for the tracking number (he's based in Austin, TX and am based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

2) Anyone married to a malaysian here and has experienced this process?

3) what can we do to expedite the process?

Any pointers? Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the reply :)

It looks promising. I hope it won't take too long for the US embassy to call me for an interview. We hired a lawyer to go through the details before the form was sent...

Oh BTW, he's actually 25 yrs older than me. would it be an issue there? from what I read, it's not.. but just needed to confirm. We met professionally at work (i work for a multinational company and have made few business trips to the US and the same goes to him).

Last question, does the embassy need my parents approval of the rship too? I read a post here by a Nigerian that her application was rejected 'cause no proof that they have met both sides' parents.

Sorry for asking a lot of questions. Thanks :)

You should really post this question in the Asian section of VJ where there may be some Malaysian couples that could speak about the Embassy in Malaysia. You mentioned that your fiance just sent in the papers. What papers? The beginning of the petition? You should hear something soon, but it will just be an acknowledgement that they've received your money, and petition, and they'll begin processing it. The wait could be 6-8 months before you even have an interview, but again, it depends on the country. After you get your NOA2, which means your petition has been approved, then you're US citizen fiance will have to provide financial information to you to bring to the Embassy along with police certificates, medical information etc. Read the Guides here to find out more about this.

Unless your fiance, in the U.S. has active deployment orders from the military, you won't get an expedite.

Read....read...read.... you'll find a lot of your questions answered in the Guides!

In the Philippines, parental consent is an issue if the beneficiary is under 21, but between 21-24, I think just a letter acknowledging they know of the relationship is needed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know about Malaysia, sorry.

Good luck on your journey and please fill in your timeline!

Thanks for the info :) We submitted I-129F and G352A forms last month. They have cleared the check so I guess all we can do now is to wait for the tracking number. Hope it won't take more than 6 mths though for the whole process :(

I'm 28 so I guess it's not compulsory to get my parents consent. Will read more about the process.. Thanks! :)
