I always love to hear the term "mail-order" brides. I've never seen one come through the mail before? Are the boxes they use comfy? I had to bring my wife here on a plane, in her very own seat. Didn't have her mailed here!!!

As I said in the OTHER thread on this same topic being spamed about by IMBRA2005:

My concern is that the CLAIMS of abuse (true or false) will skyrocket since IMBRA requires the non-USC be told EXACTLY how to circumvent the immigration laws using claims of abuse! (fraudulent or not)

I do not want to sound too much like a Nay-sayer, but I searched and found 3 cases of ACTUAL abuse and 8 case where the claims were merely alleged...of course once the claim is made, the USC can do NOTHING to prove that they were ONLY alleged! 1 of those 8 cases involved a mildly retard guy who lost a home and probably the hope of finding true happiness since she took all his "financial security" from him in her FALSE claims!

Right on IMBRA...that's what I call job security (for the TJC, anyway)!

I don't know why so many people are trashing the OP. If you think the news story is biased somehow, you should take it out on ABC News, not the person who posted the link to the story. It's not like the spammers that actually write letters to the editors about IMBRA and then come over here and say, "hey! look what I wrote!" or worse, pretend, that they just "found" a story that they wrote themselves.

And to the posters who think that there are only 3 or 8 or whatever cases of immigrant abuse, how do you explain the tens of thousands of petitions filed by battered spouses that I read about on other threads....

I'm wondering about a few things in the video. Let's see if I can remember them...in no way am I saying that these accusations aren't true, just speculation.

First, at the end, it says she's a legal resident, so these claims have no effect on her status. Isn't this bull? We've seen here on VJ a number of times where the immigrant makes false accusations against their spouse so they can fall under the Violence against women act and get a permenant permenant green card even if they divorce. If she's been married since 18 and is 19 now, she only has a conditional green card.

Also, looking through his website, it doesn't seem like she was the typical mail order bride - http://www.dickersonforsenate.com/aboutdavid2.htm

It looks like he worked in the Baltic region quite a bit, so it shouldn't be suprising that he has a wife from there. A very young wife yes, but not someone picked off an internet meat catalogue.

Take another look at his site. Hit the Immigration link to the left. It states his wife immigrated with her family at the age of 10. I guess it would be reasonable to expect she has legal residency since she has been here 9 freaking years. But they still chose to call her a "mail order bride"! Sad.

Here's the main reason I did. We have been dealing with IMBRA agenda people for a few months now while the majority of us are actually dealing with the petition process. The op shows a major lack of sensitivity to actual petitioners. Dealing with the USCIS is bad enough at this point, it's very frustrating and aggravating to see someone post something that implies some of us ( maybe even 50%) will be violent towards our future spouses. I'm under the impression that the main purpose of VJ is to aid people in the immigration process, not a place to push agendas. That is what off topic is for and that is why this thread was actually moved here. It has no relevance whatsoever to people dealing with the petition process at this point because IMBRA is law now.

You're right, you don't. You would have to have been here longer than a few days to have that knowledge. Imbra2005 is a Pro-IMBRA troll.

Nowhere did anyone say that there are only "3 or 8" cases of abuse. The poster said that they searched and found 3 cases of actual abuse and 8 cases of alleged abuse. They did not say that these were the only ones ever to exist, just that those were the only ones they found by doing a search.
