Here's a news report that mentions IMBRA:

http://video.wjla.com/wjla/candidate0725.wmv

Where did they get the statistics of 30% to 50% of immigrant brides being abused? Irresponsible reporting and a horrible spin. Now doubt if true, is horrible but to spout statistics as such is irresponsible.

I don't want to see anyone violated or abused and agree that immigrant brides should be helped and educated of our laws.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

You know when you see a report and the reporter says "some are saying this or that". Who exactly is some? And where does some get their statistics? 30% to 50% are abused? Which is it 30% or 50%? I don't buy it. Certainly foreign brides get abused just as USC brides get abused. I still haven't seen any proof that foreign brides have a higher instance of abuse. Irresponsible propaganda even if this guy is guilty, looks like "some" have already presumed his guilt.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

Not only that, but there is a likely chance that many of these brides come from countries where the abuse rate is much higher. I want to see the hard facts...but no one is publishing those. May not fit the agenda.

Add the fact there only has to be a CLAIM of abuse (i.e. no actual evidence, unlike the bruises mentioned in this story)....

I think IMBRA will only increase the CLAIMS of abuse since it also informs the non-USC how to circumvent the law by using such claims.

edit:

I know this is not the "expected" effect of IMBRA, however does a person driving through a GREEN light "expect" someone to run a RED light?

It's so wonderful that we are still dealing with the agenda posters after all us petitioners have been through. Please get a life and move on. We are dealing with the USCIS right now ok?

Not only is the report slanted but the op is helping to distribute it. Very disturbing.

Now that IMBRA has passed, it is time for us all to move on and focus on the future challenges to our country. As I pondered the issues that nay be relevant, I came up with the ones listed below for cause seekers to follow:

Pet rocks! A legacy of the seventies that has largely been forgotten and ignored. Who will take care of all the rocks that were cast aside a week after they were lovingly adopted by hopeful families. I know who can do it!

Fishooks! They are so pointy and nasty, those little fishies may get hurt. There is also a theoretical 50% possiblilty a human may get hurt touching one. (My figures are just a guess based on my own evidence) Seriously, I have been hooked at least a couple of times.

HMMMMMMMMM, oh styrofoam. It is so great at insulating yet so harmful to the environment. I think it would be wise to devote many governmental resources to a broad based study on the long term environmental effects of styrofoam. HMMMM, wait a second, that won't work, we need that money for things the majority of the public is dealing with like health care, the deficit, social security, cost of housing, employment and that blasted war.

Hopefully my list will help out, now that IMBRA is a done deal there is no reason to debate about it.

So..... all these guys on VisaJourney..... Me, Robert, Dean, Steven, all the others.....half of us are going to beat the ####### out of our fiancees once they get here? Or does this only apply to "mail-order" brides? I can't really say, as I didn't watch the video. 1) I'm on dial-up 2) The OP is a chopfcuk, and anything it posts is sure to be nothing but propagandic drivel.

I'm wondering about a few things in the video. Let's see if I can remember them...in no way am I saying that these accusations aren't true, just speculation.

First, at the end, it says she's a legal resident, so these claims have no effect on her status. Isn't this bull? We've seen here on VJ a number of times where the immigrant makes false accusations against their spouse so they can fall under the Violence against women act and get a permenant permenant green card even if they divorce. If she's been married since 18 and is 19 now, she only has a conditional green card.

Also, looking through his website, it doesn't seem like she was the typical mail order bride - http://www.dickersonforsenate.com/aboutdavid2.htm

It looks like he worked in the Baltic region quite a bit, so it shouldn't be suprising that he has a wife from there. A very young wife yes, but not someone picked off an internet meat catalogue.

10/14/05 - married AbuS in the US lovehusband.gif

02/23/08 - Filed for removal of conditions.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

12/07/08 - Adopted the fuzzy feline love of my life, my Squeaky baby th_catcrazy.gif

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!
