Well... I have some good news for you re the AP letter... you don't WRITE an AP letter. Your eligibility is based on your application for AOS. If you read the form instructions here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-131instr.pdf specifically page 4 section 1 c. You can see they ask for:

a. for proof of your status, and (this is a photocopy of your K1 visa)

b. explanation of your reasons etc OR (you don't do this because of the "or" and because C applies to you)

c. if applicant for AOS, the receipt of application (when filed WITH the application, no receipt needed)

So my reasons? There were none. My Ap document was completed similar to the example form here: http://www.visajourney.com/examples/INS-Form-I-131.pdf except on page 3 I wrote "unknown" for date of travel, and "unknown" for length of trip. (AP approved :D See my "about me" section of my profile to see how long it too 'cause I can't remember :P)

Also out of interest, there's an example "reasons" document that I've now emailed and asked to have removed because it's not needed and having it there is confusing to people and implies it IS needed.

p.s. Happy to help :) I went EXACTLY by my list and was approved without interview and without RFE (the docs have to be complete of course :P)

aha! This makes total sense... I was filling it out in overly-careful mode. My letter has been removed, and I put my "intended" dates for early October but also noted that I was planning on more than one trip. Said next trip is for the little brother's wedding next year to (I think) the antichrist.. but that's another story altogether, and likely one a UCIS official doesn't really need to hear

It's all being finalized per the V&T list of goodness-filled out, triple checked and awaiting being sent to Chicago this morning! Just seeing it sit there on the table has me bewildered as to how such a small bundle of paper could be the cause for so much research, time and money-good grief.

Crossing my fingers and toes-and thank you so much again! Here's to hoping that's everything's ace-that and I feel that I owe you some maple syrup for the list, let alone everything else... :)

Your greencard overrides all. As long as you have your passport to get home you'll be fine. If you were visiting somewhere where you'd need a visa, you'd need to check that countries requirements.

So basically you SHOULD only have to show your home passport as proof you can enter your home country before you board the plane. From other posts it appears you should show your GC too so they can track you or something. Certainly can't hurt.

Then on your way back, show your GC and passport to board the plane to US, then the GC will allow you to ENTER the US by standing in the residents/citizens line :D

Also remember not to stay out longer than 1 year, but that any longer than 6 months will affect your "citizenship" clock... meaning you'll need to wait longer to get USC.

I got my green card today!!!

Happy happy, joy joy!!!

Oh and they didn't keep my original A number that was on my K-1 visa. They have changed it to the other number that was on my first NOA for AOS.....it seems weird that they changed it.

It is 6 days short of being 6 months since I made my Green Card application. Today they they have finally updated the processing times for the Charlotte office and as of may 31st, they are taking 4 months to process, #######! where is mine??

So we now have a Senator and a Congresswoman, as well as the USCIS looking into the delay, lets hope this puts a rocket or three up someones butt!

Hi Everyone,

Quick question for you. We filed all our AOS paperwork a few weeks ago and the NOA's came in happily on schedule. We then decided to book ourselves a little honeymoon for mid-August and sure enough we got a letter today with a biometrics appointment for August 16th, right in the middle of the honeymoon! Do I remember reading here that some of you were able to go in for biometrics ahead of your scheduled time? I really don't want to check the little reschedule box for fear it will be months till we get new appointment, what are the options?

Thanks so much!

I also did a walk-in for my biometrics but some ASC's don't allow walk-ins. Is your appointment at Alexandria? That's where I did mine. We went around 8 or 9am and only had about a 10 minute wait.

PAYMENT

It's important when writing the cheque that you write:

"One Thousand Ten and 00/100" or it might be returned.

Here is the USCIS link outlining the cheque writing requirements: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD because if you're like me, it doesn't make sense to write it that way and I wouldn't have written it like that but their wish is our command :)

Hope some of you find this useful :D If I've forgotten something, or stuff doesn't make sense, please let me know :D

Yep, ours got rejected from what I can tell because I wrote "One Thousand Ten Dollars and 00/100" and signed my married name to a check with my maiden name printed in the top left corner. We were rejected for "incorrect fee". We filed the I-485, I-131, and I-765 together as a packet. Very strange. Tomorrow we will send the same packet off with a check now printed in my married name with my married name signature and without the word "dollars" in the middle of the amount line. Ridiculous!

After ringing them on the 15th and told them the AOS was past the 4 month processing time (its over 6 months now) I got a touch Friday, I guess it was the letter I got yesterday which said that my case is still being adjudicated and please wait another 6 months......#######! O.o this is a joke :(
