I would follow what Trinket suggested. I can understand your story and believe it as well, as it does happen in India... I would suggest the same get to your Spanish embassy.

So, my suggestion is to stay quiet and stay calm, enter the U.S. as soon as you enter talk to a CBP officer, explain to him everything.

I would suggest keeping quiet of your BF in India until your divorce is complete and he gets the heck out of India as well. Make sure you keep everything documented , cause one day you will wind up explaining this whole story to someone when you and your bf re-unite.

Okay but what about the paper i signed on the engagement day, that b@st@rd called me up in the morning next day to tell me just this that we are married now and you will get a green card within 3 months, after that i haven't signed any papers yet, he has also planned a family vacation tomorrow maybe to gather evidence or god knows what, i am feeling scared to death, what kind of a mess have I fallen into.

Do you know if the papers had registrar stamps on it? Like a 20 rupees or 100 rupees stamps? If so then those might be for notary officer of district court. Those papers could just be affidavits for requesting permission to get married under NRI act or could also be marriage papers itself.

Did you at least read those papers?

Yes these kidnapping and forceful marriages happen all the time in India. Some points

--You said Spanish Embassy is 10 hours drive from where you live, so I would assume you are living in North India, that is either Punjab or near by. Both Punjab and Haryana states have passed a new law a couple of years ago, where it is meant for NRIs and this law allow NRIs to marry quickly, so 30 day wait period doesn't matter if you are in any of these states.

--As others have attested only Spanish Embassy can help you as you are its citizen. I do assume that you do belong to Indian descent, if so as any other Indian girl you might have some jewelery on you, sell that if you can and get the money for train fare and run to Spanish Embassy.

--If not that, when you do leave for US, that is in another couple of weeks, shout at the airport, tell the authorities your story, get refuge at any women shelter till the time divorce hasn't been proceeded.

Others might think you are a troll or this is a bizarre case, but I can understand that this is a true case, things like these happen all the time. Parents want their Indian kids to be following "Indian tradition" and make sure they marry anther Indian and not someone from another race.

You might be in danger even when you come over to US, as you have said your parents got links, if you have to leave New Jersey and start your life somewhere else, do it. If you have to leave school for a bit and start over again, do it. That is better to do than living under threat.

People might think I am exaggerating but other Indians can attest to it, kids do get killed if they dishonor the family, and I don't wish another young kid losing their life because they didn't want to be married to someone they love. I wish you best and hope you can come out of this situation (F)

Thanks a lot for understanding my situation, yes i am from Punjab, how can state law override what is written in the constitution.

Yes I agree with Kaus, forget about the GC. If your story is true you indeed are in a great danger and don't even worry about GC. If I were you, I would rather try to go to Spain than US.

You aren't a US citizen, you aren't even an India citizen as India doesn't allow dual citizenship. You will get much more protection in Spain compared to these 2 countries.

About how it is possible for Punjab to have its law, well I am not a lawyer but I would guess every state can have their own laws. Also its not just about the NRI law, your people can have a religious marriage ceremony (if they got that many links, they won't even need to have an actual ceremony, a priest will just sign the papers) and then register the marriage like that. Much easier and hassle free.

If the situation is ugly as you guys are saying, I wouldn't do anything in India. God knows what your family is able to do - and pay somebody to do!!!

Just play their game and once you are in the US run!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I told you before, if you think you will not be able to finish your studies in US just go back to Spain and make your life there. It's better than have a crazy (ex)husband threatening you.

Don't do anything in India, you have your flight booked, just wait, it's a matter of time to get away from these people.

Also, if they make you sign anything else, maybe fake a signature? I don't know if it helps though.

No they have booked the same flight to new york with me, they are all US citizens, He is not coming with me, he has another flight booked for later.

You can also try to seek help from the Air Hostesses. I remember one case back in the late 80s where the flight attendant rescued one minor girl from being sold out to one of the Gulf countries.

But be calm for now, don't say anyone about your plan, not even your sister or anyone.

I'm so sorry you are going through this ordeal. If I read your post right you said you would be allowed to stay in NJ till the wedding is performed and the man your are to marry will be in NY, and he will allow you to continue to study in that time. I was thinking that if you don't get away from your family will in the US airport that you maybe able to get away from them while in school your family wont be able to watch you there and you could get help at school to get you to the Embasy.

Its just a thought, I hope you get away safe.

Yeah, you can try that too, but if they get suspicious it will be even harder for you to get away at the airport. I would just seek for federal officers.

You said on the other post the other 5 US citizens are going with you, so are you going to live with them until the husband gets there? Or you are going to your place in NJ after arriving?

But what if it is all a lie and they are setting me up like they did at the engagement ceremony, what if they don't allow me to go to new jersey after reaching new york, then only way out is by going or calling the nearest consulate.

My head is spinning from thinking about all this ?

I am feeling so scared, i don't want to hurt my parents or family, but i feel like i am being played with and i don't amount to anything for them. I don't know what should i do ?

I don't think you can trust in your parents anymore. Don't be afraid to hurt their feelings, they didn't respect yours.

Why do you think they did that to you? Somebody said India doesn't allow dual citizenship, so were you born in Spain? Do they live in Spain or India?

Do you think they want to immigrate to the US through you? Why is the reason they forced you to marry this guy? Is he from an Indian family as well?
