Hello everybody! I have been reading this amazing forum for about a month and finally decided to become a member, as I found it so helpful and I am sure I'll be needing it even more in the next months.

I'm from Rome, Italy, and my boyfriend is from Minnesota, but he's temporary living in Colorado. I am trying to think about a way to tell our story, but I guess I'll just start and try to make it as short as I can.

I have some relatives there in Minnesota which I am very close to, and a couple of my aunt/uncle have been very close with my my boyfriend's family for many years. In 2008 he was planning a trip to Europe and Italy, and so my aunt had the great idea of giving him my email and put us in touch. He emailed me telling me about his trip in June and so we were both opened to the idea of eventually meeting up in rome for a day or something, just to show him around the city. But eventually it didn't work out! I was very stressed out with work and I wasn't really in a happy moment in my life. We were kinda feeling bad about not having the chance to met each other, but it didn't happen and we didn't know each other at all, only a couple of email back and forth happened between us. At the end of that summer, he was back in the States...and for as much as we "cared" at that time, it was ok with it not working it, I mean..whatever! But we eventually kept in touch, trought emails and facebook, for all the following months. The next spring, I decided to make my second trip to the States after 5 years from the first one, and he was the first one to know about it. We were becoming good friends during those months, and of course at that point, with me planning a visit, the idea of us finally meeting each other was getting real and something that we really needed to make happen. Since the day I booked my ticket...we became so much closer, we started talking on skype in June, and from that moment on everything changed. I will never forget the first time we made a video chat, and it finally kind of felt like meeting each other. I got in the States in July, I was in Minnesota and he was in Colorado. We were spending all day in touch, either on chat, or talking on the phone or texting, and we just used to spend hours and hours on video, and were just up all night talking until 6 or 7 in the morning. It was amazing. All of both our family and friends knew about all of this happening then, and we were just falling so in love with each other every day more. We were looking forward the day to finally meet in person..it was just what we were (well maybe I was) waiting for to be 100% sure that our feelings were real and not only a sweet fantasy, if you know what I mean. I flew to Colorado on August 21....and that's when our lives changed forever. He was waiting for me at the airport, bringing me flowers coke and M&M's, and it took me 5 minutes to know that everything I used to feel was real...that he was real, and that he was the one. We spent one month together, from being almost strangers to be together 24/7...and that was the best time of my life! We also went on a road trip out to the west for two weeks, and that experience got us even closer. We fell so desperately in love with each other. After one mont I went back to Minnesota, and I only had two weeks left before flying back home in Italy. After a week from our first goodbye in Colorado, he flew to Minnesota, and we spent other 6 amazing days together, where I got to meet all of his family and friends and he got to meet my American part of the family. It was great, it was magical. And then the sad day came and we had to say goodbye. I flew back home two days after our goodbye, and it's been three months since that sad sad sad day.

I know it doesnt take too many words to explain those feelings because all of you guys here have been trough this, so..I know that it's such a feeling that only who's been in that shoes can understand.

We get to talk and video everyday, we use skype and we have the blackberry that keeps us in touch all day long, which is one the best thing of all of this. We use to watch movies and tv shows together, and this helps a lot, too. All my days just go by at work waiting for when I'll see him on video at night. He also got to "spend" the new year's eve with me and my friends by being on video and he saw all the firewords and things that were happening here at midnight. it was pretty cool!

We are not formally and officially engaged yet, but we both want to get marry to each other and have been talking about it a lot this past month, and so decided to start doing some researches on what it takes and everything, so to be able to eventually start the process at some point soon. He is planning to come visit me at the end of February, and I just can't wait to see him and hug him again. We are so intentional and honest to each other, it takes a lot of trust and effort to make a long distance relationship work, and we both know what we are soulmates and meant to be that we know that all the pain and sacrifices we are doing will be all worthet in the future that we will be sharing together. Every day is a challenge, and some days are harder than usual, but it's just the faith, the thought and confident that we will make our dream of being together come true someday that just gives us the strenght to be so apart. I can't wait!! :)

I ll keep on with my researches, and I hope I'll start my visa journey soon!!

Ciao for now..
