spanked kids may grow up to be happier & more successful

My father wasn't a drinker. How about yours? Did he ever spank you while he was drunk?

Was your mom? What difference does it make? I take total responsibility for my own actions! Of course someone such as yourself looks to blame it on someone else.

Again, OUT POPS the VICTIM!

I wasn't spanked and I'm happy as can be.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

So you won't give your mom and dad credit for raising you into the person you are today?

At some point you should separate yourself from your mamma and pappa! being an an individual is hard for you to understand?

It's more like they won't admit to raising him to what he is today.

Last I checked you were trying to be like me!

Yes, I read the study too. And a footnote says that wives are happier and more satisfied when they receive gentle spankings during lovemaking. Weird, but true. Bottoms up, ladies!

:D

It baffles the mind that seemingly intelligent people actually believe a spanking is going to crush a child in some way, we were a bit more resilient in my neighborhood.

It is less about whether a spanking crushes a child and more about whether there are more intelligent and effective ways to discipline a child. I tend to believe that by spanking a child, you accomplish two things: 1) you teach the child that physical force is an acceptable response to bad behavior and 2) you actually show weakness.

I received my fair share of spankings when I grew up and that hasn't messed me up in any way. Going a different route with my child, having her grow up in a spank-free environment, my parents are quite impressed with how disciplined and respectful my daughter is. In my opinion, there's simply no need to spank a child.

Sore subject with me, old man whipped me with a belt for any reason until I was 13 years of age, then he took off for God unknown places, was glad to see me go. My two youngest brothers were just babies then, did find him after I was discharged, mom had died, and asked him about taking care of his kids. Same old BS, grabbed that little bast@rd by his tie and lifted him off the ground. Brother-in-law was with me, he thought I was going to kill him, but I just pushed him down and said leave, I will raise my own brothers.

With my own babies, as cute and lovable as they were, could never see hitting or spanking them, if they were curious, and they were, would challenge them to better things. In my job, I was rewarded with promotions and bonuses for doing a great job. Did the same with my kids in school, an A was worth 20 bucks, a B, ten, a C, zero. This gave them motivation to study and work hard. Was criticized by other parents for doing this, but just pointed out, that is how our society works. Do a good job, and get a reward, least it use to be that way. This ended with college, at that time, they had to take on the responsibility and liability for part of their tuition. So had to do well to get grants and scholarships, again the reward system.

Kids that are beaten at home become bitter, and bullies, and never are given rewards for good behavior, screw that report, those guys are nuts. Wouldn't mind giving all of them a good spanking. I never hit my kids, that is stupid. I know how bitter I was growing up.

Couldn't agree more with Reinhard. It's weak, it doesn't teach anything but pretending to behave good as long as the spanker watches, then resume bad behavior. Other studies actually show that. Kids who sat down with their parents and talked about why you should or shouldn't do something show better long-term responses to that sort of discipline. I was never spanked, thank God.

I agree also with the previous poster who mentioned how the factors that influence later success cannot be properly isolated in such a study. Everyone with a little scientific knowledge would know. If you have plenty of factors, just keep correlating them, one of them will correlate at some significance, but it doesn't mean anything. Btw I wonder who funded that study and what the statistical significance of that study actually was....

I had my first experience with spanking in California. The wife of DH's coworker spanked her 6 months old (!!!) son because he pulled her hair. I was so close for calling CPS. I understand some parents want to spank and fine, they wanna hurt their kids, their business. But a 6 months old BABY? HELLO????

Or trying to keep a young baby from crying in church or in an airplane, stupid, completely stupid.
