You may have problems trying to travel on a passport that is so close to expiring.

Best get it renewed before you leave on your vacation.

travelling outbound from the US won't be an issue.... if you can get it renewed in the PI in the amount of time you will be visiting, then that certainly is an option. You do not have to wait for it to expire to renew... so if you want to renew it here in the states, then you might be best served to start NOW

If you will renew your passport here in US and wants to use your married name you will have to submit a Report of marriage to the Philippine Consulate first then apply for an amendment of passport. I did it in 2008 and good thing I made it before they announced that passport applicants must apply in person for the new MRP or machine readable passport where they will take your fingerprints and signature. Best thing to do is call the consulate and ask. If you will do it in Philippines, you might be asked for the report of marriage too if you want to use your married name since your marriage was solemnized in US but not sure about this so better call them. Good luck.

you will NOT have problems traveling as long as the passport is not expired... the problems with a passport about to expire has to do with issuance of a visa.... not traveling where you don't need a visa or already have a visa in your passport

Reporting of marriage you can do it by mail send the application to the San Francisco Phil. Consulate. I remember MOSSYCOUPLE was able to renew her passport just recently by mail hopefully you'll be able to do the same. I guess they consider the application by mail if the applicant is too far from the Consulate… speak to their staff so you will get straight answer.
