Just wondering after your bride gets to the USA if she has problems adjusting thinking the USA is too cold all the time even in normal temps.

My wife to be said it was "cold" a few times in phil and I was thinking I wonder what she's talking about because I can see in the weather report the low is like 70-75 degrees at the time.

When I was with her on Christmas in Mindanao I was sweating all the time as usual.. lol. One time at night maybe it was 70 or 72 and she said it was cold. I was wondering what she was talking about but sometimes we had the air con on in the room and I was a little cold but she was ok.

My Dad's friend married a girl from Thailand and the weather was a big adjustment thing to her even though she moved to Arizona.

I saw one guy here lived in Alaska and had pics of his wife in the snow and they looked happy as could be.

I'm just wondering from your experience if the weather was a big adjustment issue for your wife or if it wasn't much of a big deal... :)

hey my wife came to louisiana last august and still hates the weather here and she thinks it is toooooooooooooooo cold here, i wish i can do anything.lol.

My wife's first winter last year was the worst. It was only in the fall and she said that it was cold. I said no, it's only chilly. In January, she agreed with me...LOL This winter isn't too bad for her, although she still wears a minimum of 2 pairs of socks.

She is hiding under the electric blanket as we speak, and she still wants me to take her to see some snow.

If she has an electric blanket, what does she need you for?:whistle:

Chinook wants me to take her up to Snoqualmie Pass to play in the snow. Worse yet, she wants it to snow here in Seattle.

She sure acclimatized quickly!

I am from India but I come from the same climate as in Philippines. I came in Nov. 2008, and yes it was too cold for me, I am in Midwest. It wasn't just the cold, but it was also breathing problem along with the cold, a bit of fast walk would have me breathing for air, I never felt my throat this dry before, I would wake up in middle of the night catching for breath. My husband used to keep the temperature at 80 degrees all the time, yes we got a nice bill for that but I didn't care it was just too much of cold for me.

Fast forward, living here for 1 year now, 65 degree is t-shirt weather for me now, I am doing much better than my USC husband in coldness department. We went for a walk today, it was 19 degrees, after a bit of walking I let my husband use my beanie because he was shivering; once we got back home he wanted to switch on the heater to 75 degree, I really didn't care about the heater. My breathing is much better, though I use a humidifier these days and it helps.

Both me and my husband are amazed at how much I got adjusted to the weather in a year's time, I think I am lucky that way because I read/hear other people's experience and it takes them more than a couple of years to get adjusted. Guess it depends upon your body after all.

Thanks for your comments. Some of them were very funny.. hehe. Some of them reminded me of my wife. :)

I won't worry about it much then. I'm sure she will be fine after she is here for a while.

When I was getting on the plane in manila I saw some filipinos in winter coats bucked in the seats and I was thinking.. what the .. hehe.. I guess they were prepared for the air con.

I'll have to take her shopping after she's here since she has never worn socks and rarely has any long sleeve anything just like all filipinos.

It was funny on my Christmas visit when we went to the beach and it was full of people and I was the only white anywhere. I'm used to people staring by now but some people stopped swimming and were standing still in the water looking at me. It was pretty funny :)

I brought a small fleece blanket on my last flight to the Phils. The aircon can get really cold sometimes. My wife arrived here in Iowa last March and was really good about not complaining about the cold. I watched her closely and made sure she had a good coat and nice thick socks as well as gloves and a knit cap.

Summer arrived and she was pleased with the warmth. I was worried about this next winter but as of this past weekend, we had -9F temps all weekend long, she was complaining about how hot it was and kicking off the blankets.

Shirr told me she was not undrstanding why she was so cold the past Spring and not cold now even though it was so much more colder.

I think your wife will be fine if you get her lots of nice warm clothes. A good coat, some sweaters and good socks will make all the difference!!

Before she arrived Anna was wanting to experience snow so much it's funny. I reminded her that snow only lives in the cold but she didn't listen.

It's been in the negatives here and she is always asking "How much longer will it be like this" now!

Coat, Gloves, Boots... I barely recognize my Island Sweetie when we go out nowadays!

Donna loves the snow. She doesn't work tonight and wants to go sled riding. Last year, she and my sister made 2 snowmen, one was huge. (I think this was the normal size one)

My wife handles the cold here VERY well. I bought her Cuddle Duds to wear under her clothes and she loves them. They are insulated underwear for women. She doesn't like the cold wind blowing in her face and always wears a scarf when it's bitterly cold like it is today. It was 4 below zero when we left for work this morning at 5am. Here are a couple pics she took herself the first winter she was here.

LOL Gladys was so excited to see snow, now that she's seen it, she doesn't want anymore. It has been really mild here in Cincinnati so far this year, I keep telling her that it's only going to get worse and we'll see much more snow before it's all over and many days below freezing.

Fortunately for her, she has a job where she's working from the PC, so she doesn't have to come out, but when she does, she hides behind me or runs to the car and screams about how cold it is all the way.

Oh and she does the cold hands on my back thing too and I dive out of the bed. She thinks it's funny, but I hate it with a passion. I can tolerate cold hands anywhere on me, with the exception of my back.

If you filled out your timeline, it would help those who you want feedback from. For example, does my wife who has now been here in the states for nearly 3 years think it is too cold? No. Did she think that when she first arrived? Yes...and we live in sunny and mild weather here in So. California.

Another point - she has relatives who live in New Jersey and have lived there now for over 20 years. As remarkable as it may seem, Filipinos can and do adapt to colder climates. Just give her some time to be acclimated. Also, when she first arrives, all the changes are a bit stressful and become magnified. It's best to make her feel as much home as possible by finding other Filipino families in your area.
