Does your wife think the US is too cold ?

Just wondering after your bride gets to the USA if she has problems adjusting thinking the USA is too cold all the time even in normal temps.

My wife to be said it was "cold" a few times in phil and I was thinking I wonder what she's talking about because I can see in the weather report the low is like 70-75 degrees at the time.

When I was with her on Christmas in Mindanao I was sweating all the time as usual.. lol. One time at night maybe it was 70 or 72 and she said it was cold. I was wondering what she was talking about but sometimes we had the air con on in the room and I was a little cold but she was ok.

My Dad's friend married a girl from Thailand and the weather was a big adjustment thing to her even though she moved to Arizona.

I saw one guy here lived in Alaska and had pics of his wife in the snow and they looked happy as could be.

I'm just wondering from your experience if the weather was a big adjustment issue for your wife or if it wasn't much of a big deal... :)

When I got here last year, I really adjusted with the weather. I am from Mindanao too and having a different environment especially the weather is a bit of adjustment. It may be funny but I am wearing my sweater for a 70 degrees weather..lol..My adjustment was quite fast though and the weather here doesn't bother me anymore. I can even roam around with a pair of jeans and a shirt for a 50 degrees weather now :D :D :D . Your wife will be fine.

I used to try to get a rise out of Merlaine by telling her what the temp was here off and on. I'd tell her "baby, it's 15 degrees here today" and I never got a reaction from her at all. Then I finally asked her what the temp was there and she had no idea. It dawned on me that she has no idea at all what 15 would feel like. She's never felt 60 much less a -20 windchill like we're having now! LOL I'm taking her straight to the mall to clothes shop when she gets here ;) lol

I am in laughing so hard here i am crying! My wife also is from Mindanao and has been here in FLORIDA (yes the sunshine state) for 4 months now. Every 4th sentence from her is "it is so cold!" hahahahaha and it is 72F! Actually her issue is her clothing, she used to dress like she was back home....short pants, sleeveless t-shirt, and of course sandals (flip-flops to the rest of the free world). It took a while but she eventually began to wear socks, full shoes, long pants and more suitable, long sleeved shirts. This seemed to solve the problem. It is just their physiology, I grew up in central Illinois so I am comfortable in 55F.

So to answer your question, the weather is an adjustment for her but not the BIG adjustment. Food (or lack of filipino kind) was her hardest hurdle. The rice we get in the plastic bags at the supermarket taste "ugg". luckily we found an asian store with some good rice and filipino can goods. Hopefully you have something similar nearby.

Get her some warm clothing, an electric blanket for the bed and she will be fine, just be patient and hope she doesn't find the heater thermostat and generate an electric bill over 500$ a month..............summer is just 4 months away

When my wife gets here she will be comfortable in winter time in Southern California. Heck, it only gets cold here between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The lowest it could go in my neck of the woods would be 30 and that's around 4:00 AM. Besides, the centralized heating system and the fireplace are always there to warm up things.

Yeah my wife thinks is is cold here in Hawaii. We had some upper 60 nights and she was cold. No problem with the food or rice here, she eats all the Filipino food she wants. Most of the stuff grows here anyway.

Yup, be prepared for her to wear a coat indoors. But she will adjust. Just the other day my wife asked if it was warm outside and the temp was in the 20s F. :jest:
