Speaking of the ak-47, the article mentioned this gun several times though all they had was a round, is this more of the old trick where you use a -mean looking gun, to move the agenda along?

I have a gun that shoots that same round and there are many many in circulation (as well as others) .... why did they keep jumping to the AK-47?

I tell you Danno.

The reporter was only able to get barebones information out of the parents and the hospital, so in order to pad out the article to the required word count - they approached an "expert" to fill in the blanks.

The facts of the piece are that the kid was shot, and that the bullet punctured the roof of the church. Its a reasoned deduction that it was fired as part of new year celebrations.

Everything else is speculation.

It's an educated guess.

“I would suspect this was a rifle. An AK-47. That’s the most prolific [weapon found] downtown,” said Kelly Fite, who was the top ballistics expert with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s state Crime Lab for almost four decades.

It is clear that they do not know for a fact that this came from an AK-47. They are making an educated guess based on the fact that it just happens to be "the most prolific weapon found" in downtown Atlanta.

actually ... when someone says AK-47 caliber .... the are totally stupid ......

Not everyone lives and breathes firearms, Natty. There is plenty Gene Hunt does in his life that you likely have no idea about.

As it should be. We shouldn't all be alike anyway.

Actually all I asked Natty was why he was so fixated on the rifle.

Its the least important part of the story.

My guess.. and this is only a guess.. is that he wants to know why the 'expert' in the story is guessing that it was an AK-47; after all, the bullet has supposedly been found and that should allow them to make more than an educated guess.

What I believe has likely happened here is that the 'expert' in the story doesn't know everything law enforcement does.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
