Hi,

I'm currently reside in Jamaica. I'm 40 years old with a 15 year old daughter. My 80+ year old mother who is a US citizen filed I-130 for me back in February 2007. On December 7, I received word from my family in the states saying my petition was approved by the UCSIS. I came to America for the holiday in which a letter was mailed to my mom saying, the petition was approved and further information would be sent to me the application in Jamaica. I'm oblivious to this process and would like to know what are the next steps and what I should expect within the next few months and how long will it take for me to move to America. Basically, can someone walk me through this whole process so I know what to expect? Also, in regards to my 15 year old daughter, will she come with me? Also, me and my daughters father are no longer together, so how does that come into play? Do I need a letter from him? Do I take her to the interview, how does that work? Thanks.

the i130 will be sent to the NVC where it will be filed until your priority date is current. Were you married? to know in what category you're in.

There is a category for single children of a USC and another category for married children of a USC. For now it's more years of waiting.

Her father is a Jamaican citizen. I as never married. Also, what is a priority date?

for familiy petitions there is a time of waiting until a visa is available to the person, and it depends on the priorty date. immigration will be working with the people that have a visa available depending on the category they are in. on your approved i130 is the priority date that you have to wait until it becomes available.

when it does, the NVC will contact your mother to start filing the adjustment of status paperwork and then you will have your interview at the American Consulate/Embassy in Jamaica.

if you never married then your category is the 1st, single children of a USC, they are working with the cases that were filed on April 1st, 2004, and your priority is somewhere in Feb of '07, so you have more than 3 years of waiting.
