Just came back from my fingerprints appointment, went not as smoothly as I had hoped.

I'm glad I brought my marriage certificate with me.. and that we were there very early as it took 1 hour for me to get out. My husband was not allowed to stay with me.

As I used my married name on the application I was referred to an immigration officer because it was not the same name as on my passport.

She seemed surprised I hadn't changed my passport, with the stress etc it took me awhile to remember than in Belgium you always keep you're maiden name on official papers anyway.

It was a bit hard to communicate, she had a very strong spanish accent, then she finally understood I wanted to get rid of my father's name, she took my papers and came back a few minutes later.

She had put all my given names and my maiden name on my appointment letter.

So now I have middle names even though I didn't use any for all my applications, I hope it won't mess things up.

Why is it so hard to make understand that you don't have a middle name even though you have more than one given name on your passport, Belgium can't be the only country where this happens :(

I too, had the similar experience. I have not changed my maiden name in my passport so when I went to fingerprint, I was asked to show them my marriage certificate... which I did not have... but the ASC manager said "anything that shows your current name?" then, I remembered that I had my insurance card and my credit card so he let me go with that.

I see, well I can understand that the reasons they are so suspicious is that it's also a identity check but we've been through so many security checks already as it is lol

I am sending you a big e-HUG! You are not alone, Shanh!
Thanks Fatima :))

Thats good to know, thank you! I haven't gotten my passport updated simply because I don't trust sending all my original copies through the mail to them and they won't let me just do it at the consulate, so I'm going to do it when we make a trip up to Canada. I will make sure I bring my marriage certificate with me for sure! Your husband was not allowed to stay with you? Was he at least allowed in? Mine is driving me and I would hate for him to have to wait outside for an hour if they are going to be slow.

I was not allowed to stay with my husband for his biometrics. We only waited 20 minutes or so, and they had a waiting room for me to stay in. It was soooo bare....no TV or things to read. Just a bunch of chairs and only 2 other people waiting. All over the walls they had signs with the steps for completing the biometrics, lol. I did not even bring a book cause I thought I would be with him the whole time and we could talk. Hopefully your husband won't have to wait long. :)

haha and the thing is, my current last name is "Maiden name-Husband's family name". It's not like it's hard to figure out but I guess this is how it goes... if you're in Rome, do as the Roman says right?

My husband waited for me in the car. When I went in, I was happy to see that there was only one other person in front of me. The biometrics lady asked me to show her my paper, and then fill out another document with my info, including any other names I have had and the application numbers. She then typed in my info into a computer (which, by the way, does not allow for hyphens). My picture kind of looks like a mug shot, though. Wish I could have taken one better.

Anyway, all in all, it was pretty good, especially when she said that I'll get my EAD in the mail soon! :star:

I think it depends on the ASC? My husband was able to come in with me and stay. The waiting area was right in front of the roped area where the fingerprinting machine was so he even watched the lady take my fingerprints. He stood right along the ropes and even talked to the guards because there was a prisoner (he was wearing the orange jumpsuit and was handcuffed) - my husband asked about him and they said he was being deported.

Makes sense. Shahn and I are going through the same ASC which is why I was wondering.

My husband drove me too and came in with me but after the guard checked my papers he said that my husband couldn't stay, that it was for applicants only. This is for Santa Ana's ASC

So he got back to the car which luckily wasn't parked very far, parkmeters all around but they do have their parking but I can't remember the rate. Parkmeters are a quarter for 20 min.

Sigh...I suppose I shouldn't look on the touches as a sign that they are doing something now. I think after biometrics, the only touches you'll ever see on any app is the one for approval - it will surely take you by surprise.

By the way, we just received our change of address update in the mail at our new address. At least they are very up to date on the changes!
